POMFRET --- This August three Pomfret residents will be riding the 31st Annual Pan Mass Challenge for the first time. The PMC, as it is known, is a 190-mile (from Sturbridge to Provincetown), two-day bicycle ride fund raiser for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. Participants this year will come from 36 states, eight countries, range in age from 13 to 83, and 300 will be cancer survivors. And the Quiet Corner will be well represented as there are several riders from the area. You may have seen John DiIorio, Jason Verraneault and Maureen Nicholson on the roads around the Quiet Corner training for the (rapidly) approaching event.
On Aug. 7 and 8, Team “Perseverance,” and more than 5,000 other determined riders will be challenging themselves to support this effort and raise money to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Last year the PMC raised $35 million for cancer research and treatment with every last penny going to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Jimmy Fund. The PMC is a powerful avenue to empowering the army of doctors, nurses, clinicians, scientists, and support staff that are in our hospitals and laboratories, the people on the front lines working tirelessly to make the dream of “no more cancer” a reality. Research is helping to make that dream happen. To learn more about the PMC, go to www.pmc.org.
You can be a part of this effort by supporting team “Perseverance” and letting the PMC be your avenue to making a difference in the fight against cancer. These economic times are difficult for us all but remember, cancer takes no rest, no vacation, needs no help, and is not slowed by the economy. You may send a check made out to the Jimmy Fund/PMC to John, Jason or Maureen or you can contribute online at: www.pmc.org/egifts/TP0124. Team “Perseverance” is sponsored by 1st Alliance Lending of Hartford and has six members who will take to the road in honor of those we know and love fighting cancer and in memory of those we know and love and have lost to cancer.
