For Life
PUTNAM --- Putnam Bank continued its staunch support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life program this year, participating in four relays in the branch communities.  Seventy employees participated in the teams this year, and many of them joined more than one event.  With Putnam Bank as a Corporate Sponsor for the various events, and the fund-raising efforts of Putnam Bank employees, more than $10,000 was contributed to the cause.
“Cancer is a health issue that has somehow touched the life of everyone in the community – whether it’s their own struggle, someone in their family or a close neighbor or friend,” said Thomas A. Borner, chairman and CEO of Putnam Bank.  “Putnam Bank contributes time and money to this worthy cause to honor the many people in our community and in our own organization who have battled cancer, and to support them in their fight to seek treatments and cures.”
Relay For Life is an overnight event that joins communities in the fight against cancer. It is a way to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and fight back against a disease that takes too much from too many.
Teams of friends, families, schools, businesses, and organizations raise money for the American Cancer Society, individually and through fun group fund-raisers, and then join together at a local track, taking turns walking overnight. Cancer survivors and caregivers are the guests of honor and each Relay for Life kicks off with a special recognition, called the Survivor’s Lap. Teams set up campsites and enjoy entertainment, activities, and special ceremonies throughout the day and into the night.  Then at sunset an inspirational Luminaria Ceremony lights up the track.  Each Luminaria is created in honor or in memory of a loved one with cancer.
