Sr. Pauline
Desroches, DHS
PUTNAM — Sister Pauline Desroches, 85, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit died Aug. 18, 2010, in the Holy Spirit Health Care Center in Putnam where she had been a resident since 2008.
Born on Dec. 17, 1924, in Waterbury, the daughter of Joseph and Flore Desroches, she entered religious life in 1942 and made her religious profession on Aug. 18, 1947, at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam. She was then known as Sr. Pauline Francis.
She was a teacher for most of her religious life, having earned a bachelor’s and master’s in education. Her teaching assignments beginning in 1947 included schools in Connecticut, Massachusetts, upstate New York, Vermont and California. In 1985, she went to the Appalachian region and tutored in Hurley, Va. In 1986, she did Migrant Ministry in Painter as well as Aspers, Va., and in 1988, she taught adult basic education in Hayneville, Ala., continuing this ministry in Providence, until 1998. She retired to the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam in 2005.
She leaves a brother, Roland, of Escondido, Calif.; nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Pariseau,

DANIELSON — Dorothy Elizabeth “Dotty” Pariseau, 89, of King Street, died Aug. 10, 2010, at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the wife of the late Russell Pariseau. They were married Nov. 28, 1940. He died July 6, 1989.
She was born April 14, 1921 in Pawtucket, R.I., daughter of the late George and Aurelie (Caouette) Langevin.
She leaves a son, Gerald Pariseau of Moosup; a daughter, Carol Pariseau Cinami of Danielson; granddaughters, Dawn Pariseau of Atlanta, Melissa Colli of Wauregan, Beth Fontaine of Moosup, Deanna Elliott (Glenn) of Woodstock, Rick Cinami Jr. (Julie) of Hampton; great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jackie Langevin; special friend Ruth Chevrette, and her special caregivers, Lillian and Janet.

Maralyn J. Whipple,

ROGERS — Maralyn J. Whipple, 66, of Litchfield Avenue, died Aug. 11, 2010, in UMass Memorial Hospital. Born in 1944 in Maryville, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Maurice V. Henry and the late Blanche Smith Henry-Crabtree and stepdaughter of the late Chester Crabtree.
Mrs. Whipple worked as a CNA for Westview Healthcare Center for 12 years. She took pride in taking care of people, either at home with her family, or at work with her patients.
She leaves her sons, Ronald King Jr. of Rogers, and Daniel Whipple of Rogers; daughter, Cathy Suzanne King of Danielson; brothers, Chester Crabtree III of Cape Cod and Edward Crabtree of California; sisters, Susan Chvirko of Coventry and Cathy Jade Coast of Coventry; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, the late David Whipple; and her brother, the late Robert Crabtree.

Michael Dupont,

BROOKLYN — Michael Thomas Dupont, 22 of Brooklyn, died unexpectedly at home Aug. 14, 2010. He was born Oct. 6, 1987, in Putnam, Son of Brenda S. (Kelly) Dupont and Michael L. Dupont.
Michael was 2005 graduate of the Woodstock Academy and attended Quinebaug Valley Community College. He was elected by his classmates as class clown and was proud of it. He enjoyed making people laugh. Michael was an avid reader, played the guitar and wrote music and poetry. He was a pro expert motocross racer and traveled the east coast to race. He was a member of Central Cycle Club and enjoyed riding motocross.
He leaves his mother Brenda Dupont of Brooklyn; father Michael L. Dupont of Dayville; sister Saige Dupont of Brooklyn; grandparents, uncles, aunt, cousins.
The Service was Aug. 19 at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.
Linda Sharples

DAYVILLE — Linda Nellie Sharples Berube of Hartford Pike died unexpectedly Aug. 20, 2010, at home. Born Dec. 7, 1958, in Olathe, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Thurman and Rosemarie (Hoschle) Sharples. Linda loved to cook and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
She leaves her daughter, Kricket Berube of Pomfret Center; son, Justin Berube of Dayville; companion of many years William “Chico” Figeueroa of Dayville; brothers Thurman P.Sharples III of Baldwin, Mo., Kenneth R. Sharples of Thompson; sisters Anne Kellner of N. Grosvenordale, Heidi Rhault of Dayville; grandchildren Destiny Watkins, Kristina Sirrine, Keltan Alimandi, Jayden Berube, Jaivon Sirrine.

Ellen Kay Farber,

PUTNAM — Ellen Kay Farber, 31, of Putnam, died unexpectedly Aug. 21, 2010, at home. She was born Dec. 11, 1978, in Putnam, daughter of William Farber III and Sharon (Benoit) Aubin.
Ellen was a graduate of Putnam High School, a member of the Putnam Congregational Church.
She had made her home in Putnam most of her life, she was a Sunday School teacher and had worked as a cashier at Putnam Supermarket for several years.
She was a skilled artist, enjoying drawing and photography. She had a great love for her son Devon, and enjoyed trips to the park.
She leaves her mother and stepfather Sharon and Paul Aubin of Poultney, Vt.; father William Farber III of Danielson; son Devon Palumbo of Uncasville; brother, Andrew Farber of Poultney; uncle Jeffrey Benoit of Pomfret.

Stephen Zadora,

ROGERS — Stephen Zadora, 83 of Rogers, died Aug. 21, 2010, at Day Kimball Hospital. He was the husband of Stacia (Schap) Zadora. He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Woonsocket, R.I., son of John and Mary (Gula) Zadora. He was a 50-year member of Union Local 777, a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Westmoreland APA.
He leaves his wife Stacia; four sons: Stephen (Stoge) Zadora Jr. (Linda) of Rogers, Alan Zadora of Elmer, Okla., Richard (Maynard) Zadora (Paula) of Thompson, David Zadora (Patricia) of S. Killingly; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother John Zadora of Dayville. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Heather Zadora, brothers, Stanley, Chester, Walter; sister Veronica Spaulding.
The service was Aug. 24 at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St. Danielson, with burial with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.
Clara Brewer
Roper Denison
BROOKLYN - Clara Brewer Roper Denison, 99, of Creamery Brook, died Aug. 14, 2010 at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home.
She was born June 13, 191,1 to Paul W. and Jessie Brewer Roper of Moosup. She was baptized March 27, 1921 at the Moosup Baptist Church. Clara attended Green Hollow School (one room), graduated from Plainfield High School in 1927 and went to Boston University, Practical Arts and Letters.
In 1949 Clara married an “old time friend” Harry G. Denison. Together they enjoyed vacations on Cape Cod and Nantucket, golf, photography and the Red Sox. Harry was a master cabinet maker and they had a shop, in their house in Moosup, selling his furniture, antiques and Clara’s choices of fine gifts and decorative items.
Clara’s first employment was as a secretary with Hood Rubber Co., Watertown, Mass. The company made P.F. Flyer sneakers and Clara’s siblings got to “test drive” samples. She spent two years in Toronto, Canada working for Gutta Percha Rubber as secretary to Asst. Manager of Export. Later, Clara worked for Case and Risley Press Paper Co. in Oneco as an accountant and office manager. Finally she became a partner in the family business Paul W. Roper and Sons automobile dealership in Moosup. Clara was the secretary, treasurer and office manager. She retired in 1994 when the business was sold to Disch Motors.
Retirement just gave Clara more time to volunteer for numerous community groups. Harry was a Rotarian and because of Clara’s work she became an honorary member and was presented with the Rotary International Paul Harris Award by the Plainfield Club in 1996. President Robert Miller asked Clara to serve on the Regional Advisory Council of the Quinebaug Valley Community College. After serving for 15 years she was presented the Trustees Merit Award at the 1995 commencement. The Plainfield Tercentenary Committee appointed Clara to be the Grand Marshall of the V.J. Day Parade in 1999. Clara set up a scholarship fund to help a Plainfield H.S. graduate each year with college expenses in Harry’ name. It now memorializes them both. She has supported numerous organizations like The Nature Conservancy, Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Day Kimball Health Care, The Smithsonian, St. Jude Hospital and The Last Green Valley.
She was predeceased by husband Harry G. Denison, brothers Charles, George, Howard and Paul “Peter” Roper, sisters Harriet Barnes and Mary Elizabeth Bishop. Clara leaves behind a brother-in-law, Edward Bishop; sisters-in-law Doris Roper and Evelyn Roper; nieces Linda Jameson, Jessie Roper, Patti Derouin, Jane Arruda, Meg Bishop and nephews Peter Gary Roper, Riddell Roper, Charles Bishop, Paul Roper, Jim and Marion Denison.
The Funeral was Aug. 20 at Tillinghast Funeral Home, Danielson with burial at Union Cemetery, Moosup.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Charles Waters, 89, of Kissimmee, died Aug. 4, 2010, at Osceola Regional Medical Center, Kissimmee. Charles was born in March 28, 1921, in Putnam, son of the late Wesley and Viola (Riendeau) Waters. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Charles was in the oil distribution business with his family for many years before his retirement. He then moved to Kissimmee in 1981.
He leaves his wife, Doris Waters; daughter, Carol Richardson of Salisbury, Md.; stepson Leon “Buddy” Yaun; brother, Richard Waters; sisters, Phyllis LeClair, Blanche Rawson and Mae Alvord; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by a brother, Conrad Waters. Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Crematory, Kissimmee.
Alice M. Woolsey,

ROGERS — Alice M. Woolsey, 84, of Hartford Pike, died Aug. 23, 2010, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam.
She was born July 29, 1926, in Brandon, Vt., daughter of Carl and Martha (Welch) Munger.
She was one of 12 children having four brothers and seven sisters. She was employed for 28 years at Anchor Glass Corporation in Dayville, in the quality control department.
She retired Jan. 1, 1994.
She leaves a son Leo P. Munger of Danielson; daughters Charlotte Woolsey of Wisconsin, Marcella Woolsey of Killingly, Sue Woolsey of Danielson; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter Patty (Woolsey) Stuckey.
Calling hours at from 10:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 25 with a service at noon at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St. Danielson. Burial will follow at Westfield Cemetery, Danielson.
Cecelia Bukowski,

THOMPSON — Cecelia (Kubiak) Bukowski, 92, of the Wilsonville section of Thompson, died Aug. 23, 2010, in Webster Manor. Her husband, Joseph A. Bukowski, died in 1966.
She was born and raised in Wilsonville, the daughter of John and Sophie (Cichon) Kubiak. She lived in Webster for 20 years before moving back here in 1960.
Mrs. Bukowski was a seamstress at Putnam Manufacturing for most of her life, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Joseph Basilica in Webster, its Holy Rosary Sodality, Sacred Heart Society and St. Anne Society. She enjoyed sewing and was active in her church for many years.
She leaves two sons, Richard Bukowski (Maureen) of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Joseph A. Bukowski (Michelle), with whom she lived; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, Benjamin Kubiak (Joan) of Thompson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Pizzetti in 1986.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 25 in St. Joseph Basilica, Webste, with burial in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, Webster.
Charles Laws Sr.,

DUDLEY --- Charles D. Laws Sr., 73, of Healey Road, died Aug. 21, 2010, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge.
He was born in St. Charles, Va., son of the late Fred and Beaula (Berry) Laws and lived in Dudley for the past 20 years prior to that living in Oxford. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He worked for a construction company where he worked as a truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He leaves his wife Frances M. (Walley) Laws of Dudley; two sons, Charles D. Laws Jr. of Dudley, Dennis F. Laws of Woodstock; two daughters, Stacia A. Williams of Barre, Mass., and Sandra J. Laval lee of Methuen, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Willie Laws of Indiana; sister Juanita Maddox of Tennessee.
Burial was in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
