PUTNAM --- Putnam Science Academy soccer coach Saeng Phongsa is looking at a rebuilding year this year, saying he's just trying to get the young players up to speed and the returning players ready to go and be leaders.
Last year's team won the Northeast Prep Championship with a 5-3-3 record, but has lost key players, Eray Kaya, Sadettin Akkaya, Ramazon Oztop and goalie Orhan Sultanov.
Coming back are senior Burak Demirbas, senior Kadir Karahan, junior Fatih Macun, junior Fehmi Agaoglu and senior Seyfullah Dalgin.
Joining the lineup this year are Abdul Bektas and Nahit Akrsu.
Phongsa, in his fifth year as coach, has racked up a 30-8-8 overall record at PSA.
Up against a short preseason this year, Phongsa said "One of our keys this year will be that the older players show leadership and push the younger players along."
