Pomfret 3, St. George 0
The Girls’ Varsity soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season Sept. 22 with a convincing 3-0 win against St. George’s. While Pomfret’s team did not play its best soccer, they scored three quality goals behind forwards Andi Nicholson & Caroline Kozlowski. Andi scored the first just 2:26 into the game when she beat the keeper to a cross from Carly Scott on the right flank and tapped it in to put the Griffins up 1-0. The next 20 minutes were fairly uneventful with play going box to box mostly off punts from the St. George’s keeper that carried over our backs in the strong tailwind. Pomfret clearly dominated possession but never really found great rhythm. There were moments of brilliance at times, including the one that led to the second goal when Andi Nicholson flicked on a pass to L’Or Iman Puymartin, who took a touch and sent a perfectly placed through ball to Caroline Kozlowski. Caroline got on the end of the ball and solidly beat the keeper with a well struck ball to the lower corner. The final goal of the day came just ten minutes into the second half off a through ball from Liv Dalton-Hoffman who found Andi up the middle. Andi did a great job of holding off the defender and slotting the ball side netting for her second goal of the afternoon. The defenders were steady all day but we will work on getting them more involved in the final third. Keeper Mackenzie Dunphy recorded her second straight shutout with 6 saves, two at point blank range.

Knights 0, Falmouth 2
The Golden Knights had a very close match against the Falmouth Academy Mariners Sept. 26, losing 2-0 in a game that could have very easily gone either way. MPS came out strong in the first half and held Falmouth at bay until well into the second half when the Mariners managed to slip 2 shots in. The Knights made several attempts on goal which were thwarted by the excellent skill of Falmouth’s keeper. Despite the losing score, the Knights played a competitive and exciting game against Falmouth Academy, and had one of their best first half showings in recent history.
