PUTNAM — Donald J. Warren, 62 of Groveland Avenue, died Jan. 19, 2011, at the Regency Heights Nursing Home in Danielson after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He was the husband of Julie (Rhault) Warren.
He was born May 10, 1948, in Putnam, son of Donald M. and Lucille (Bernier) Warren.   Donald was an active member for more than 20 years with the Putnam Fire Department; he served with Company 1, as a driver and EMT. He was last employed at John M. Dean and Company; he worked for Putnam Water and Sewer departments, and was employed for more than 20 years at the former Putnam Hertzel.
He had a great love for the outdoors, enjoyed hiking, gardening, biking and woodworking.
He leaves his wife of 27 years, Julie; stepfather, Albert Bourgault of Grosvenordale; daughters, Donna Poulin of Winterhaven, Fla.; Doreen Hertzfeld of South Kingstown, R.I., Michelle Bartholic of Dayville; grandchildren, Alex, Barry, Amanda, Drew, Cody, Colton.

Jean H. Criscione,

PUTNAM — Jean Alice Herlihy Criscione, 83, of Putnam and Simsbury, died Jan. 17, 2011.  Born in 1927 in N. Chelmsford, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Lester and Laura Herlihy and grew up in Putnam. 
She attended Putnam High School where she was a member of the cheerleading squad.  Jean showed an early gift for fashion design.  After graduating high school she attended The Traphagen School of Design in New York City where several of her fashion designs were used as prototypes by a major NYC department store.  Jean enjoyed designing and making clothes for herself as well as for members of her family. In 1947 she married the late Angelo Criscione, from NYC, at St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. Together they settled in New Jersey to raise their three children:  Karen, Elaine, and Donald.  Jean and Angelo retired to Simsbury in 1992.
She leaves two daughters Karen Bushong (David), and Elaine Criscione; her son Donald Criscione (Mary); sister Anne Auger (Bernard); brother Robert Herlihy (Charlotte); late brother John Herlihy’s wife June; her brother in-law Sam Criscione (Helen); six grandchildren, Bryan, Nickel, Krista, Timothy, Andrew, Kevin and a great-granddaughter Ruby Michelle Bushong.

Joan Keith,

PUTNAM — Joan Louise Keith, 79, of Putnam, died Jan. 21, 2011. Born Aug. 3, 1931, in Cohoes, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Maude A. (Perkins) and Harry Mason Keith. She graduated from Putnam High School in 1949 and attended Quinebaug Valley Community College. She worked for 30 years at CL&P, many years as a dispatcher in Danielson. Joan was a member of the Congregational Church of Putnam for 63 years, where she taught Sunday school, was formerly a head deaconess of the church, a member of the Christian Education Committee, chairperson of the Local & World Outreach, as well as other committees and boards of the church. She was also a member of the Putnam High School Alumni Association, Putnam Grange #97 where she served as lecturer, chaplain, and chairman of deaf activities, Chairperson of Quinebaug Pomona #2, Woman’s Board at Day Kimball Hospital, Harmony Court - Order of Amaranth, Boston Mineral Club, Audubon Society, Secretary/Treasurer of South Cemetery Association for many years. She volunteered at the Day Kimball Hospital, Daily Bread, Northeast Soup Kitchen, RSVP Peer Program, and also enjoyed the Windham County 4-H. 
She leaves one sister, Gloria A. Danielson; nieces Heidi Lee Danielson Bzdyra (James), Holly Lynn Danielson Harder and Tara Lee Salvas, nephews Hans Leonard Danielson (Marlea), and Justin Keith Salvas (Sandra), five great-nephews and a great-niece; an aunt and uncle, Jean and Ralph Foster. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry Mason Keith Jr.; a sister, Judith Jean (Keith) Salvas.
The Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 29, at the Congregational Church of Putnam, downtown.  Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 28 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam. Lena H. Racette,

PUTNAM — Lena H. Racette, 88, of Wilkinson Street, died Jan. 19, 2011, in Pierce Memorial Baptist Home.  She was the wife of the late Omer Racette.  Born in 1922 in Willimantic, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Dorilla (Lamiotte) Plante.
Mrs. Racette worked as a winder for the American Thread in Willimantic for 20 years.  She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and feeding the birds.  She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting.   She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and was the last of nine siblings.
She leaves two daughters, Yvonne M. Vigeant (Raymond) of Danielson, and Barbara A. Morin (Edmond) of Danielson; five grandchildren, Michael Vigeant of Houston, Suzanne Lewis (Scott) of Massapequa, N.Y., Donna Sweet (Steve) of Danielson, Karen Bradley (Scott) of Stafford Springs, Craig Morin (Nancy) of Lino Lakes, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren, Danielle & Emily Sweet, Daniel & Sarah Lewis, Kyle & Cory Bradley, Andrew Morin and Cameron Swanson.

Louise Kopecki,

DANIELSON —  Louise B. Kopecki, 90, of Wauregan Road, died Jan. 19, 201,1 at the Regency Heights Nursing Home. She was the wife of John Kopecki. They were married in 1959. She was born June 14, 192,0 in Esmond, R.I., daughter of the late Fredrico and Anna Tortie. Louise made her home in Danielson most of her life. She was a communicant of St. James Church. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and working with and being around people.
She leaves in addition to her husband John, her daughter Patricia Shareiko (Mark) of Danielson; grandchildren, Jennifer Benoit of Pottersville, N.Y., William Shareiko of Willimantic and two great-grandchildren, Amber and Toni.

Donald Meunier,

DANIELSON — Donald M. Meunier, 94, of Framingham, Mass.,, formerly of Danielson, died Jan. 18, 201,1 in Framingham.
He was born on July 4, 1916, in Danielson, son of the late Melora (Guertin) and Severien M. Meunier.  He attended local schools and joined the U.S. Navy in 1936, serving as a chief warrant officer and physician’s assistant.  He was honorably discharged in 1964. 
He was married to Mary Elizabeth Evans, a U.S. Army nurse, who died Nov. 25, 2004.
He leaves sisters, Lucille D. Carroll of Plainfield; a niece Don and Liz raised, Barbara  Huff (Leroy) of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roland Meunier, Aldor Meunier, Noel Meunier, Norman Meunier and his sister Adrienne Poirier.  
The Mass of Christian  Burial was Jan. 24 in St James Church, Danielson, with burial with military honors in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations: Charity of one’s choice. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St,. Danielson.

John T. Murdock,

POMFRET CENTER — John T. Murdock, 65, of Brook Front Lane, died Jan. 16, 2011, after a brief illness at Boston General Hospital.
Born April 17, 1945, in Putnam he was the son of William and Barbara (Baker) Murdock. He was married to Mala Murdock.
John graduated from Putnam High School in 1963 and entered the Army in 1966. He graduated from Officer Candidate School and obtained the rank of captain. John served his country as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. After serving in the military, John continued flying helicopters in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Indonesia, Bolivia and Mexico. John made his home in Thailand for more than 20 years, where he met and married his wife.
The last 15 years of his life, John continued flying in the U.S. and eventually owned his own company.
In addition to his parents and wife, he leaves his daughter Nantida K. Murdock; two sisters, Sandra and Diane Murdock; his twin brothers, Donald and Douglas Murdock.

Richard Anderson,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Richard C. Anderson, 69,  died Jan. 22 , 2011,  at home after a battle with lung cancer.
He was born and raised in N. Grosvenordale, the son of the late Henry and Josephine (Gagnon) Anderson and lived here all his life. He served in the Air Force as  airman first class 1959 to 1965.  He worked in construction owning  RCA Roofing and Siding for 25 years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in N. Grosvenordale.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Viola (Morin) Anderson; a son, Michael Anderson of Uxbridge, Mass.; a daughter: Sandi Anderson of Thompson; a sister, Theresa Choiniere of Webster; four grandsons. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Harry P. Atsales Sr.,

DAYVILLE — Harry P. Atsales Sr., 81, formerly of Primrose Village, died Jan. 21, 2011, at Regency Heights of Danielson. He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Putnam, son of the late Peter and Mary (Nicholapolis) Atsales.
Mr. Atsales served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean war veteran. He worked in the maintenance department at the Rectory School in Pomfret for many years. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Danielson.
He leaves two sons, David Atsales of Hampden, Mass., and Harry P. Atsales Jr. of Dayville; two daughters, Stacia Haggett of Newbury, Vt., and Maria Dubey of Webster; a brother, John P. Atsales of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Stasia Pelzer of Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Sophie Boris.
The Funeral was Jan. 25 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Danielson, with burial in Westfield Cemetery with full military honors. Tillinghast Funeral Home,  Danielson.

David Bastien-Barbour
WEBSTER — David K. Bastien-Barbour, 47, died Jan. 17, 2011, after an illness.
David was born and raised in Worcester before moving to Webster.  He was a furniture maker for Ethan Allen for many years.  David enjoyed playing cards and  visiting the casino.  He leaves a daughter, Andrea White of Dudley; two grandsons; aunts, Sharon Overman of Webster and Nita Soroka of Worcester, Cynthia St. Onge of Oxford, and Carol Robidoux of Leicester, Mass.;  uncles, Paul St. Onge of Arizona and Thomas St. Onge of Webster; his companion of several years, Dawn Chesnis of Putnam. He was predeceased by his mother, Joanne Barbour (St. Onge). A gathering in celebration of his life was Jan. 23. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.

Theresa Bond,

WEBSTER — Theresa M. (Lefebvre) Bond, 83, died Jan. 21, 2011, at her daughter’s home after an illness.
She was born in Webster and raised in Putnam, one of the six children of Napoleon and Celina (Robillard) Lefebvre. She lived in Webster since 1955. Mrs. Bond worked as an inspector at the American Optical Company in Southbridge for 20 years. She then was an assembler at Webster Spring Company in Oxford, Mass., before she retired. She was a member of St. Louis Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She bowled in the Thursday Morning League at the Mohegan Bowl-A-Drome. Besides bowling, she enjoyed playing bingo, attending flea markets, going on bus trips and collecting swine miniatures.
She leaves four daughters, Susan M. Kolodziejczak with whom she lived, Cindy J. Denham of Webster, Linda A. Delamere of Worcester, and Kathleen Davey (Paul) of Germany; two sons, Ken Bond (Ruth) of Indiana and Wayne Bond (Justine) of Webster; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Leonard Russell, two brothers and three sisters. A Memorial Mass was Jan. 25 in St. Louis Church. Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, Webster.

THOMPSON —  Ruth E. (Coupe‘) Cournoyer, 87, of Sand Dam Road, died Jan. 15, 2011, at home.
She was born in Queens, N.Y., daughter of the late Raymond and Hilda (Wilson) Coupe‘ and lived in New York before moving to Thompson 60 years ago.  She was a member of the Thompson Congregational Church. She leaves two sons, Dwight Cournoyer of Thompson and William Cournoyer of Quaddick; two daughters, Faith Travis of Leyden, Mass., and Roseanne Jarmolowicz of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.  Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home.

Dorothy Daviau,

WEBSTER — Dorothy G. (Rayno) Daviau died Jan. 11, 2011.
She was born in Putnam CT and was married for 57 years to Robert O. Daviau in 1953. 
She worked at B&W Footware and Sandlerette Shoe for several years before retiring in 1969.  Dorothy and her husband were foster parents for 33 years taking in over 100 children that needed their love and compassion.
Dorothy lived in Webster most of her married life.  She was an active candlepin bowler and also was a Girl Scout leader for almost 30 years.  Dorothy loved to go camping and kept herself busy crocheting.  Her greatest pastime was volunteering at St. Anne School in Webster. She volunteered at the Sacred Heart Church Festival for 13 years running either children games or the Kitchen. She was the president of the Golden Heights Tenants Association, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Circle of Charity organization of Sacred Heart Church in Webster.
She was the last of 17 children and leaves one living sister, Alice Bruce from Putnam. She leaves four daughters:  Sharon Labay (Bruce) of Oxford, Mass., Donna Kokoszka (George) of Webster, Diane Joiner (Stephen) of Taunton, Mass., and Mary Below (Shawn) of Putnam; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass was Jan. 14 at Sacred Heart Church with burial in the parish cemetery. Donations:  St. Anne School, Webster. Bartel Funeral Home, Dudley.
