Varsity Basketball
Pomfret 75  Hyde  38
Jan. 19: The boys came away with their most complete game of the season. Everyone on the team was able to get a good deal of playing time. In fact, with the exception of Captain JJ Ahmed who was injured in a “mosh pit” over the weekend, every member of the team scored at least one basket and all but one grabbed a rebound. More impressively the 38 points given up were the lowest in over two years. Ian Crouse and Jeffrey Iyalekhue were congradulated on career-high (Pomfret varsity) point totals.
Kahari Beaufort - 17 Points (7-14, 3-6) 7 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 2 Blocks, 1 Assist and 2 Turnovers; Andrew Robinson - 10 Points (5-9, 0-0) 7 Rebounds, 3 Steals, 1 Assist, and 1 Turnover; Dan Gagnon - 9 Points (4-8, 0-0) 3 Assists, 3 Steals, 2 Rebounds and 0 Turnovers; Nic Lane - 10 Points (3-6, 2-2) 5 Assists, 4 Rebounds, 1 Steal, and 2 Turnovers.
Pomfret 74 Gunnery 59
Jan. 22: The Griffins had had a lopsided victory versus Gunnery earlier in the season and they were out to avenge the loss. Pomfret jumped out to an early lead behind the hot shooting of Danny Metzgar and the offensive rebounding of Brandon Mayfield. They combined for 20 of Pomfret’s 31 first-half points. unnery managed to claw back to within 4 as they hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the half.
Gunnery started the second half strongly as they took a three-point lead. Pomfret started to run its offense and got the ball into the middle to Kahari Beaufort and he converted at a good pace. Pomfret also managed to get to the free throw line and took 23 free throws as opposed to two in the first half. Nic Lane led in assists with four as Brandon Mayfield and Andrew Robinson added three a piece. Mayfield grabbed 12 assists to lead the team and Beaufort, Robinson, Metzgar and Dan Gagnon added 11, 8, 7, and 6 respectively. Brandon Mayfield had his best game in a Pomfret uniform, but the MVP goes to Kahari Beaufort who though being forced to play out of position, finished with 32 points, 24 in the second half.

Wrestling
Hyde 45 Marianapolis 12
Jan. 19: Marianapolis and Hyde have had a back and forth rivalry for years, and this year it was the Wolfpack’s turn to dominate in this annual match up.  David Smith ’14 opened up the match with a stunning pin, even though he had bumped up to the 112-lb. weight class. He fought off his back for the first two minutes of the match, and turned on the intensity in the middle of the second period to turn his opponent and earn a pin. Marcos Mercado ’13 also wrestled up a weight class and pinned one of the Marianapolis captains in the last second of the first period. Kevin Smith ’12 wrestled his opponent for all six minutes and earned a decision victory with a 10-4 score.  Hyde then had successive pins from the 145lb. weight class all the way through the 189lb. weight class by Kenrick Vincent ’12, Mac McGuire ’11, James Ziede ’12, Addison Wheat ’11, and Zack Guidice ’12.
