Janeth R. Cole,

E. WOODSTOCK — Janeth R. Cole, 86, of E. Woodstock, died  March 4, 2011, at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.
Janeth was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Worcester, daughter of Henry and Elsie (Mead) McIntosh. She was a student nurse at Worcester Memorial Hospital where she met the love of her life, Henry B. Cole, whom she married on June 1, 1946, in her hometown. They renewed their vows on Valentine’s Day 2011 to celebrate their upcoming 65th wedding anniversary.
Henry and Janeth  made their home in Woodstock for over 64 years. She was a gifted and talented musician and as a former member of the E. Woodstock Congregational Church she served as a substitute organist and pianist for many years. She was active with both the Ladies Benevolent Society and the Betty Putnam Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered her time for many years in the Woodstock area, helping children with learning disabilities.
She leaves, in addition to her husband Henry, daughters, Constance Lovell of Waterford, and Lauren DeHerrera of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren: Sheri Barclay, Pamela Rowe, Mark DeHerrera, Christopher DeHerrera, Ryan DeHerrera, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Alyson Desaulniers.

Norman R. Maynard,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Norman R. Maynard, 64, of Pompeo Road, husband of Dorothy (Bartkiewicz) Maynard, died March 5, 2011, in Yale New Haven Hospital.  Born in 1947 in Webster, he was the son of the late Roland and Norma (Denis) Maynard.
Before retiring, Mr. Maynard worked as a sexton for St. Joseph Cemetery for 17 years.  He also owned and operated his own painting business and at one time owned Dormay Pastries.
A 1965 graduate of St. Joseph High School, he entered the Army National Guard during the Vietnam era.  He was an active member of St. Joseph Church and was involved with many St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Church fund-raisers.  For 20 years, he served as president of the parish’s Spring Fling.  He was past president and an active member of the Community Fire Department.    Norman and Dot celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on Oct. 12, 2010.
In addition to his wife Dot of 42 years, he leaves his son Corey Maynard (Mary Ann) of Dudley; two daughters, Pamela M. Maynard of N. Grosvenordale and Kimberly K. Maynard and her fiancĂ© Scott Aucoin of Dudley and his many friends at LB’s and Jim’s Hardware.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. March 9 in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. A gathering will begin at 10 a.m. March 10 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., with burial following in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Donations: St. Joseph Church, Community Fire Department or to Yale New Haven Hospital. 

Roland R. Leonard,

WEBSTER —  Roland R. Leonard, 79, died March 4, 2011. at home.
He was born in 1931 in Erie, Penn., the son of Ralph and Lois Leonard. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Wilkes University and was a graduate of the Harvard Business School. He held many executive positions at Joy Manufacturing Company, Ingersoll Rand Corporation, and for the last 25 years has been the owner and CEO of Numa Tool Company in Thompson.  
He leaves his wife, Darlene C. Leonard; his children, Rodney Leonard (Linda), Rebecca Leonard, Alan Leonard and his wife Julie West, Katherine Leonard and her husband David Delk, Ralph Leonard (Keri); 11 grandchildren, Christine Therrien, Milton Morse, Kimbery Gadbois, Matthew Morse, Amanda Leonard, Michael Leonard, Dagny Leonard, Ethan Leonard, Maddox Leonard, Dylan Delk, Reese Leonard; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Molly, Hailey and Lily; nephew Scott Dimick (Gail).

Everett Hadley Jr.,
Korean war vet
STERLING — Everett C. Hadley Jr., 78, of Sterling died March 5, 2011, at Regency Heights in Danielson.
He was born in Rhode Island, son of the late Everett and Edith (Nelson) Hadley. He was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean war and graduated from UConn with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. He lived in Sterling where he owned and operated Hadleys Garage. Throughout his life he learned to speak several languages, enjoyed traveling, saltwater fishing and riding his motorcycle.
He leaves his sister Ruth Wolfe of E. Lyme; children Everett F. Hadley of Brooklyn, Aaron C. Hadley of California, James Nigh of Canterbury, Jennifer Ramsey of Arizona, Debbie Gordon of Rhode Island; 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Penny Brayman of Rhode Island.

Charles  Shippee,

DANIELSON — Charles Paul Shippee, 57, formerly of Danielson and Brooklyn, died Feb. 27, 2011, in Fayetteville, N.C.
He was born June 14, 1953, in Putnam, son of Walter A. and Theresa (Wallen) Shippee Sr. Later, made his home with the family of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gagnon of Brooklyn.  A graduate of KHS, Class of 1971, he was an undefeated cross-country runner and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Charles retired from the Air Force in 1993 after 23 years of military service.  
He leaves his daughter, Jenilee D’Ortona (David) and granddaughter Addison and daughter Megan, of Schenectady, N.Y.; son, Ryan and former wife Nancy Hoyt Gaudreau of Danielson; siblings Suzy Armstrong, John Shippee, Dennis Edison, Kevin Shippee, and Norma Eileen Webster. He also leaves Stephen Gagnon, David Gagnon, Douglas Gagnon, William Gagnon, and a good  friend Michael Barnick of Nampa, Idaho. He was predeceased by brother Walter A Shippee Jr. and sister Mattie Shippee Wood.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 17 at the Hoyt residence at 17 Stone St., Danielson, with a service at 6. Burial will be with military honors at 11 a.m. March 18 in National Veterans’ Cemetery, Bourne, Mass. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.

Frank E. Riley,

PUTNAM — Frank E. Riley, 55, of Five Mile River Road, died Feb. 28, 2011, at Matulaitis Nursing Home..  He was the husband of Doreen (Carpenter) Riley. They were married Dec. 18, 1977.
He was born June 5, 1955, in Putnam, son of John F. and Fay J. (Lamphere) Riley. 
Frank worked for the last 13 years at Loos & Company as a die cutter. He retired in August of 2010 due to illness. He had also worked at Anglo Fabrics in Webster and Hale Manufacturing in Yantic and Putnam. He enjoyed watching television especially wrestling and classic TV shows of the ‘60s and ‘70s. He had a great love and care for all kinds of animals.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Doreen; two daughters, Jennifer Marie Bellone of Manchester and Patricia Ann Riley of Danielson; six grandchildren; siblings: John F. Riley of Chandler, Ariz.; Joseph P. Riley of Woodstock, Michael D. Riley of Lewiston, Maine, Anna Dexter of Windham; nieces and nephews; and his dog Gizmo and cat Calli.
The Graveside Service will be at 1 p.m. June 5 in Munyan Cemetery, E. Putnam. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.

Rob R. Macgregor,

WOODSTOCK — Rob Roy Macgregor, 97, of Old Saybrook, husband of the late Mary Knowles Higgins Macgregor, died Feb. 25, 2011, at Gladeview Health Center.
Rob was born in Pelham Manor, N.Y., son of the late James and Isabel (Stoughton) Macgregor. Prior to moving to Old Saybrook Rob lived for many years in Centre Harbor, N.H., and Woodstock, where he was a member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock.
After serving in the Navy during WWII, Rob worked in the Geology Dept. at Wesleyan University and later as a salesman for the National Survey of Vermont.
He leaves his brother James Macgregor of Haddam; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents he is predeceased by his sisters Isabel Carroll and Helen Wyatt-Brown and his brother Franklin Macgregor.

Blanche Frappier,

MARLBOROUGH --- Blanche L. Frappier, 92, of Marlborough and formerly of Putnam, widow of the late Edward A. Frappier, died Feb. 27, 2010, at Apple Rehab in Colchester. Born in 1918 in Putnam, she was the last surviving of the six children of the late Pierre Emile and Eva (Guerin) La Grandeur.
On Nov. 27, 1941, she and Edward were married at St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, where she was a longtime communicant and member of the Choir. Together they shared 53 years of marriage before he died April 17, 1995.
She leaves three children and their spouses, Annette (Earlan) Bradstreet of N. Windham, Jeanne (Ronald) Boulay of Marlborough and Charles (Celeste) Frappier of N. Grosvenordale; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter. In addition to her parents, husband and siblings, she was predeceased by a grandson.

Phyllis Rutanen,

SOUTHBRIDGE — Phyllis (Morse) Rutanen, 87, formerly of North Woodstock Road, died Feb. 27, 2011, at Radius Healthcare in Southbridge.  Her husband, Onni Rutanen, died in 1985.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of George E. and Emma (Upham) Morse, and lived in the area all her life.  She graduated from Mary E. Wells High School.  She did homecare for many years.  She was an accomplished pianist, an avid reader.
She leaves two daughters, Susan Jarvais, (Richard) of Dudley and Carol Sansoucy of Woodstock; two  sons, Roy Rutanen of Worcester and David Rutanen of Feeding Hills; grandchildren, Renee Rutanen, Jade Schuyler, Jenny LaFond, Aja Jarvais, Niomi Jarvais, Jediah Jarvais, Ryan Sansoucy, and Sarah Rutanen, and five great-grandchildren.
The Funeral was March 5 in Central Baptist Church, Southbridge with burial in Morse Neighborhood Cemetery. Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, Southbridge.

Rose A. Randolph,

DANIELSON — Rose A. Randolph, 83, of Hutchins Street, died Feb. 26, 2011, at Regency Heights of Danielson.
She was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Dudley, daughter of the late John and Anna (Konecny) Skrzypczak. Mrs. Randolph worked at local mills for many years.
She leaves her children, Donald Randolph (Melissa) of Danielson, Donna Pevehouse and Charles Lea of Ocean Isle, N.C.; three grandchildren, Taylor Randolph, Zachary Randolph and Sydney Lea.
