The Quinebaug Valley Velo Cycling Club (QVVelo) elected its 2011 Board of Governors at its Annual meeting in January. Now with over 120 members, QVVelo is the Quiet Corner’s largest cycling club and it is looking forward, in 2011, to growing even larger. “QVVelo is for all riders of all levels,” said James Frost, one of the newly elected Governors. “If you ride your bicycle on a consistent basis, you should consider joining us.”
“Velo” is French for bicycle and today, cycling is one of the most exciting and fastest growing aerobic sports in the US, with riders of all ages and all levels participating, and QVVelo is growing to meet those needs. “Whether you ride a bicycle for exercise or sport…whether you ride on the road using a hybrid bike or one with dropped handlebars…whether you ride a mountain bike on trails or are interested in cyclocross…or even if you are interested in participating in a triathlon, there are members of QVVelo who share your interest,” added Chris Gazzola, also a new Governor of the club.
QVVelo holds a number of local weekly rides and welcomes new riders with a “no rider left behind” policy. It also helps to set up and manage a number of local charity rides throughout the riding season.
“If you look outside and see the piles of snow and ice, you might doubt that spring will ever come,” said Wendy Caron, laughing. “But we are cyclists! We know spring and riding will soon be here!”
