PUTNAM --- Community Health Resources (CHR), a local provider of mental health and substance abuse services, announced that Community Prevention and Addiction Services (CPAS), a local addiction recovery service provider, has merged into and become a service division of CHR. The collaboration creates the leading behavioral health provider for central and northeastern Connecticut . Outpatient locations are in Putnam and Danielson.
Merger discussions began last year when the nonprofits started exploring the benefits of joining together and the resulting value to the community, clients and employees. The two Boards of Directors concluded that together, they could most effectively ensure greater community access to high quality, integrated care and enhance outcomes. Additionally, they could avoid duplicate spending on administrative systems and create efficiencies through technology investments.
“We are very pleased with our new relationship with CPAS,” said Heather Gates, CEO and president of CHR.  “We now have the opportunity to combine our talent and resources, as well as share and implement best practices.
The new CHR will serve over 10,000 individuals and families seeking help with mental health and substance abuse issues.  The combined agency will offer 104 community-based programs out of 40 locations with 16 medical directors (MDs) and four advance practice registered nurses (APRNs) on staff. It will employ nearly 600 staff, many of whom will have opportunities for professional development and advancement. All services and programs will continue to be housed in their respective locations.
