on verge of
qualifying
for States
PUTNAM — If all goes well with three CSC conference games this week, the Lady Clippers softball team may qualify for their first state tournament game in quite a few years, according to head coach Steve Smith.
May 6, the Lady Clippers lost to the Wilcox Tech 12-4. The Clippers were led by senior Stephanie Baumuller who scored once and pitched five strong innings with nine strikeouts.
Holly Desrosiers hit a two-run double and Taylor Trudeau went 1 for 2 to lead the the Lady Clippers.
May 2 the Lady Clippers’ win streak came to an end at the hands of Platt Tech 7-4. Platt Tech came into the game as one of the best teams in the Class S division with a 9-2 record.
The Lady Clippers were led by Senior Stephanie Baumuller who pitched a “heck of a game,” according the head coach Steve Smith.
Baumuller mowed down the first nine batters she faced but had some difficulty in the fourth and fifth inning, walking seven batters and allowing seven runs.
She ended the day with nine strikeouts and nine walks.
“I was so proud of the way Stephanie didn’t give up after the fourth and fifth inning. She dug down and battled hard to finish the game,” said Smith. “The whole team put in a great effort,” he added Kaylee Shippee continued her hot hittin, going 2-3 with three RBIs and Megan Heaney also went 2-3 at the plate.
