head for
States!
PUTNAM --- Last week in Danbury the Lady Clippers softball team did something it hasn't done since 2004 ---  they qualified for the state tournament with a powerful performance against Abbott Tech. The Clippers won 23-7.
The Lady Clippers were led by senior Stephanie Baumuller who was 4-5 at the plate, with a double, triple, two stolen bases and had four RBIs. She also pitched six strong innings, walking three and striking out  seven.
Holly Desrosiers went 4-5 at the plate with a double, two stolen bases and five RBIs. Holly also threw out four players trying to steal second.
Julie Therrien went 3-4 with an RBI.
"What a game," said coach Steve Smith. "Everyone came into today's game prepared and ready to play. I am so happy for these girls and this program."
The Lady Clippers will have a chance to secure second place in the CSC East this week when they travel to meet arch rival Norwich Tech.
On May 9 the Lady Clippers beat  Parish Hill 14-11. The Clippers were led by sophomore Kaylee Shippee who went 2-3 with two triples and five RBIs.
“Kaylee has been seeing the ball extremely well,” said Smith. She had seven doubles and three triples on the season. Megan Heaney went 2-4 with three RBIs and Stephanie Baumuller struck out 10 wile collecting her third win of the season.
May 10 the Lady Clippers won over Parish Hill, 16-1. Baumuller pitched five strong innings of no-hit softball when the game was called by the mercy rule.
“Stephanie pitched a great game only giving up two walks and had two strike outs,” said Smith. She also went 1-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
Putnam was led by Taylor Trudeau who went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs and Megan Heaney went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI.
