THOMPSON — The Marianapolis softball team finished its regular season ranked third out of all 39 WNEPSGSBA schools after a tough loss to Suffield.
Before meeting Suffield in the Class B Division, the Knights finished the regular season in second place in the WNEPSGSBA Class B Division. That is the school’s highest ranking.
In the May 21 battle against Suffield, coach Eric Riemann said, “We played well but their pitcher was very good and we were overanxious and lost 3 - 0.”
Sara Morrow registered the Knights’ only hit and scattered eight hits and two earned runs. She pitched out of runners on second and third 3rd with no out situations in the fifth and seventh innings to hold Suffield to three runs.
Then Suffield played the winner of the #1 vs. #4 game, Canterbury, May 22 and lost to #1 Canterbury 3 - 2. Canterbury beat # 4 Greens Farms 12 - 1 and is the Class B Champion.
Riemann said “We actually finished the regular season ranked third out of all 39 WNEPSGSBA schools in class A, B and C. Only the A champs and the B champs were ranked higher.”
