PUTNAM --- The Putnam High School girls' basketball team split two games last week, losing Jan. 27 to Cheney Tech by a score of 43-38 and winning over Ellis Tech earlier in the week, by a score of 63 to 26.
Cheney Tech jumped out to a 20-11 halftime lead but the Clippers clawed back to 30-28 at the end of third quarter on a 10-point third quarter by Ashley Espinosa. The fourth quarter saw Cheney build the lead back to seven points but again the Clippers rallied to close the gap to 38-39 with 30 seconds left.
Cheney scored the last two baskets to have the final score become 43-38. Putnam was led by Ashley Espinosa with 14 points, Christie Austin had nine points and 10 rebounds and Makenzi Kaylor added eight  including two three-point shots. Putnam falls to 10-4 and Cheney goes to 13-3.
In the Ellis Tech win Putnam was lead by three high scorers: Monica Phongsa (14 points), Makenzi Kaylor (15 points) and Ashley Espinosa (11 points) Ellis Tech was lead by Jordon Garrett (10 points).
