Barbara Zamagni,

PUTNAM — Barbara P. Zamagni, 86, of Senexet Road, died Feb. 10, 2012, at the Day Kimball Hospital. She was the wife of William Zamagni Sr. They were married Oct. 7, 1944.
She was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Putnam, daughter of the late Charles and Victoria (Desrosiers) Popple. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation, and had made her home in Putnam all her life. Barbara was a school teacher in the Putnam Middle School for 21 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Sarah Williams Chapter of the DAR, Danielson.
She leaves her husband William; children: William Zamagni Jr. (Kathleen) of Putnam, Pamela Coderre (Maurice) of Putnam, Charles Zamagni (Nancy) of Putnam, Penelope Zamagni (Robert Baskerville) of Todd, N.C.; five grandchildren: Derek Coderre (Stacie), Lance Coderre (Lisa Tonnessen), Jason Zamagni (Eileen), Mathew Zamagni, Andrew Zamagni; seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 16 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations: St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT 06260. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Viola Trudeau,

PUTNAM — Viola Trudeau, 97 formerly of Aldrich Road, Putnam, died Feb. 3, 2012, at Day Kimball Hospital. She was the wife of the late Normand Trudeau. He died in 1994.
She was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Pomfret, daughter of Samuel and Anastasia “Nettie” (LaRose) Columbia. She had made her home in Putnam most of her life, she enjoyed crocheting, and working with her husband in their greenhouses. Viola and her husband owned and operated National Chromium.
She leaves her brother Richard Columbia of Putnam; nieces and nephews including Richard Columbia of Putnam. Viola was predeceased by her sisters, Agnes Columbia, Sonia Columbia; brothers, Raymond, Daniel, Edgar, Albert and Robert.

Barbara S. Richards,

WOODSTOCK — Barbara S. Richards, 88, of Woodstock passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Feb. 10, 2012, at home.
Born in Norwalk, she was the daughter of Herbert and Myrtice Siegmund. She lived in S. Woodstock for over 60 years.
Barbara and James Richards raised their family while working hard as partners to build their business, Modern Home Products, Inc., which was at the current site of Windy Acres in S. Woodstock. After James’s death in 1967, Barbara enjoyed a long and happy career at Citizens National Bank, retiring as a Senior Loan Officer in 1990. Barbara loved playing competitive Bridge, completing NY Times Crossword puzzles, and she enjoyed road trips all over New England. During her retirement, her travel adventures included New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Alaska. She was a lifelong, loyal fan of the Red Sox, UConn Huskies, tennis and golf. She was an honest, moral, no-nonsense, practical and loyal person with a wonderfully wry sense of humor. Easy to laugh, easy to help, easy to listen, she was the one to count on for good advice.
She leaves three daughters, Cynthia Richards Wood, of Webster, Barbara Richards Eslinger, of Pomfret and Jan Richards-Schmidt of E. Killingly; two sons-in-law, Robert S. Eslinger and Roland H. Schmidt; six grandchildren, Keith R. Eslinger, Neal C. Eslinger, Tara Wood Myers, Elizabeth O’Connor, Lynn Marie Richards, and David Scott Hilton, and five great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Evelyn Richards Russell. She was predeceased by her two siblings, Warren Siegmund and Thelma Goodier. Mrs. Richards was also predeceased by her husband, James Ernest Richards Sr., a World War II veteran (Normandy), who died in September of 1967, and subsequently by her son, James E. Richards Jr., a Vietnam veteran, who died in 2002.

Joseph L. Choiniere,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Joseph “Larry” Choiniere, 91, of Pasay Road, died Feb. 8, 2012, in Day Kimball Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marcella (Coderre) Choiniere. Born in 1920 in Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Joseph and Clarinda (Champagne) Choiniere.
Mr. Choiniere was a radio operator during WWII for the Merchant Marines. He became a tool and die maker and over the years worked at Rogers Corp., American Optical, and retired from the Whitcraft Group in 1982. He was a member of the Putnam Elks, and the Quinnatisset Country Club. He enjoyed camping, hiking and golfing. He was a genealogy buff and belonged to the American French Genealogical Society in Woonsocket, RI.
He leaves a daughter, Michele Sevigny of Branford; grandchildren, Laura of Ansonia, and Justin of Webster; great-grandchildren Christopher and Lilly; and his longtime companion, Josette Banks of Brockton, Mass..

Dennis L. Szpyrka,
Vietnam war vet
WOODSTOCK VALLEY — Dennis L. Szpyrka, 63, of Rt. 198, also known as “Uncle Den” and “Sparkey,” died Feb. 9, 2012 in Day Kimball Hospital. He was the husband of Linda (Froehlich) Szpyrka. Born in 1949 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Walter and Rita (Michon) Szpyrka.
Mr. Szpyrka was a U.S. Marine, POW who served his country during Vietnam war. He went on to work as a judicial marshal for the Windham Judicial District. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his brothers, Bruce Szpyrka of Palm Bay, Fla., Cyril Szpyrka of Thompson, and Carl Szpyrka of Woodstock; his sister, Jean Auger of Thompson. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest Szpyrka, and Keith Szpyrka.
Visitation is at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, 20 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Burial will follow in Barlow Cemetery. Robert Duquette,

GROSVENORDALE — Robert “Pete” Duquette, 90, formerly of Grosvenordale, died Feb. 6, 2012, in Matulaitis Nursing Home.
Born in 1921 in Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Adrian and Diana (Mailloux) Duquette.
Pete worked as a mechanic for Cormier & Larrow Chrysler as well as Place Ford and Cargill Chevrolet.
He also worked for Ivanhoe Tool & Die and Weltco.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a lifetime member of Valley Springs Sportsman’s Club.
For many years, Pete traveled with his group salmon fishing in New Brunswick and in later years kept his fishing boat in Stonington.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Susan (Rogers) Duquette; two sons, Robert B. Duquette (Margaret) of Webster, and James M. Duquette (Christine) of Woodstock; two daughters, Catherine Duquette of Dudley, and Janice L. Duquette of Grosvenordale; a brother, Arthur Duquette (Josephine) of Grosvenordale; five grandchildren, Rory Duquette (Susan) of Webster, Marinda Dexheimer (Mike) of Fairhaven, Mass., William Duquette of Homestead, Fla., Lindsey Duquette of Providence, and Kelsey Duquette of Vermont; and two great grandchildren. He is predeceased by two sons, two sisters and a brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 11 in St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Ida Langlois,

DANIELSON — Ida Langlois, 77, of Upper Maple St., died Feb. 12, 2012, at Regency Heights in Danielson.
She was born Sept. 20, 1934. in Putnam, daughter of the late Leon and Aurore (Privee) Peloquin.
She was married to Adelard Langlois on Feb. 19, 1955. She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson.
She worked in the textile industry and also as a homemaker.
She leaves daughters; Linda Strouse, Nancy Langlois; sons: George Langlois, Robert Langlois and his girlfriend Janet Mayo, David Langlois and his girlfriend Lisa Scribner, all from Danielson; grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Adelard Langlois and a son Donald Langlois.
There will be a Mass at St. James Church later and burial will be private.
