Frederick Moyer, left, and the Jazz Trio, will perform in a fund-raiser concert for Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut April 1.

POMFRET — World class pianist Frederick Moyer and his Jazz Arts Trio will perform the annual Rev. David Picciano Memorial benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut at 2 p.m. April 1 at the Tang Performing Arts Center at The Rectory School.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and can be purchased from Habitat board members or at the door or by calling 779-5634.
Moyer performed his first concert for Habitat on March 15, 1997, at the request of the late Rev. David Picciano, a member of Habitat’s Board of Directors.
When asked why he performs for Habitat, Moyer said, “Like most people, I have always been very concerned about issues of poverty, inequality, injustice, etc. and have been inspired by Habitat’s individualistic approach.  Also, Jimmy Carter and Dave Picciano are two of my heroes and I feel wonderful supporting their causes.”
Billed as Classical Jazz, the classical portion of the program will feature Moyer performing solo piano pieces by some of the piano masters of the Romantic Era and will likely include works by Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Liszt.
For the second half of Classical Jazz, Moyer will be joined by Peter Tillotson on bass and Robert Savine on drums.  Known as The Jazz Arts Trio, this performance will include both note-for-note transcriptions of some of the great jazz piano trios of the past and some of their own improvisations.
Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity’s current build in Brooklyn which will soon be home for a single mother and her family.  For information about Habitat visit www.habitatnortheastct.org; call 860-928-7293 or on Facebook.
