Charles S. Bowen Sr.
EASTFORD — Charles S. Bowen Sr., 85, of Eastford, died Feb. 29, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was the husband of Arlene (French) Bowen for more than 60 years. He was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Eastford, son of the late Oliver D. and Gertrude (Leavitt) Bowen.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Infantry 88th Division “Blue Devils” in Italy. Charles had made his home in Eastford all his life, a 1943 graduate and a member of the Color Guard of The Carson Long Military Academy in Carlisle, PA. He was a Charter Member of the Eastford Independent Fire Company.
Charles owned and operated Charles S. Bowen Trucking, Inc. and Eastford Truck Sales, Inc. for over 50 years. Charles, with his mother, was instrumental in the development of the “Oliver D. Bowen Memorial” Eastford Little League Fields. He served as 2nd selectman for the Town of Eastford from 1959 to 1971.
He leaves, in addition to his wife Arlene, children Pamela Desaulnier (Dennis) of Eastford, Christopher Bowen of Eastford, Richard Bowen (Amy) of Eastford, Charles Bowen Jr. (Pathumma) of Thailand; a brother Spencer Bowen of Eastford; a sister Betsy Erickson of Eastford; grandchildren Derrick, Daniel, Kristin, Alyssa, Sarah, Benjamin, Jacob and Caleb, great-grandchildren Aisha, Hunter, Abigail. He was predeceased by his brother Russell Bowen and his sister Nancy Ann Bowen.
A Celebration of the Life of Charles S. Bowen Sr. was March 5 at the Eastford Congregational Church, with burial in the spring in Grove Cemetery, Eastford, with military honors. Stella Jamrogowicz,
‘Mrs. Claus’
N. GROSVENORDALE — Stella (Duszlak) Jamrogowicz, 94, of Rachel Drive died March 2, 2012, in Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. She married “Her Johnny,” the late John Jamrogowicz, on May 27, 1939, in St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale.
Born in 1917 in N. Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of Stanley and Anna (Twardzik) Duszlak.
Stella worked as a spinner for the former Cluett-Peabody Mill and the former Baltic Mill.  Then she worked for the Sandler-ette Shoe Co.  Later she learned Braille and was a reading aide for the Thompson School system retiring in 1982. 
A communicant of St. Joseph Church, Stella served as secretary for the parish Ladies of St. Anne.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Thompson, and the Community Fire Department Auxiliary.  She was a member of Dr. Van Cardiac Group of Southbridge.  For over 50 years, Stella and her husband John were Thompson’s Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.
She leaves daughters and sons-in-laws; Patricia and Robert Blain of N. Grosvenordale,. and Judith and George Campbell of Tallmadge, Ohio; grandchildren Nancy Berube (Kenneth) of Groton, Scott and his wife Michele Campbell of Tallmadge, and Sandra Costa (Domenic) of Stow, Ohio; great grandchildren Jack Costa, Sydney Costa, Adam Berube, Mitchell Berube and Natalie Berube; sister Nellie Piotroski of Brooklyn. Stella was the sister of the late Helen Beaulac, Catherine Spiewakowski, John Duszlak, Joseph Duszlak, Edward Duszlak, and Stasia Morin.
The Mass of Christian Burial was March 6 in St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.

Lillian M. Messier,

PUTNAM — Lillian (Briere) Messier, 94, of Addison Street, died Feb. 28, 2012, at the Village Manor Nursing Home in Plainfield. She was the wife of Theodore J. Messier Sr.  Born in West Warren, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Laura (Masse) Briere.
Mrs. Messier worked as a dietary aide for Day Kimball Hospital for 34 years.  She was a very active communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and volunteered for many activities such as the “Circle of Fun.”  She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and served as a Regent for 24 years.  She was also a member of the League of Catholic Women.  She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 21.
In addition to her husband of 74 years, she leaves sons, Theodore J. Messier Jr. of Putnam, and Robert R. Messier of Hebron; daughter, Carol A. Rodriguez of Ann Arbor, Mich.; brother, Edward Briere of Putnam; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille L. Sorel,

PUTNAM — Lucille L. Sorel, 92,  went to be with the Lord March 3, 2012.
Born Aug. 30, 1919, in Rockland, R.I., she was the daughter of Albert and Lois Sayles Brooks, Lucille grew up in E. Killingly, and graduated from Killingly High School. She worked with her parents at the Acme Cotton Mill before marrying.  After settling in Brooklyn, she worked at Macadam Associates in Danielson as a secretary until the death of her husband Alfred P. Spicer.  She later married George Sorel and worked with him as the bookkeeper for Sorel’s Garage, from 1966 to 1989, at the age of 70.  They lived in Brooklyn until his death in 1995.  In 2002, she lived with her daughter Janette in Windham until 2008, when she went to Matulaitis Nursing Home, in Putnam.
She leaves behind two daughters, Janette J. Trayner of Windham, Angela L. Spicer (husband Peter S. Panek) of Thompson; two grandsons, William W. Trayner of Germany and his wife, and Kevin B. Perez of Worcester; three granddaughters, Jennifer L. Trayner, Crissy A. Trayner and Tonya L. Spicer; two great-granddaughters, Sharice Trayner, QuingMai Trayner and Tonya’s children; stepdaughter, Madeleine Caffrey; four stepsons, Paul Sorel (Maureen), Ronald Sorel (Diana), Henry Sorel (Brenda) and Norman Sorel (Etta), all from Brooklyn, along with their children and grandchildren.   She was predeceased by her oldest son, Gary S. Spicer, a brother Ernest Sayles, and a sister, Thelma Clotfelter. 
 A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. March 7 at Tillinghast Funeral Home, Danielson. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, Danielson.

Gertrude Cadarette,

OXFORD, Mass. — Gertrude E. (McGrath) Cadarette, 86, died Feb. 25, 2012, at home. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Edward S. Cadarette who died in 2010.
She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late John F. and Theresa (St. Croix) McGrath, and lived in Boston and Worcester before moving to Oxford in 1953. She graduated from East Boston High School. Mrs. Cadarette was a member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford.
She leaves three sons: Douglas Cadarette of Oxford, James Cadarette (Audrey) of Woodstock, and Edward Cadarette (Sandra) of Oxford; two daughters: Janet LaBonte (Michael) of Dudley, and Joanne O’Connor (Kevin) of Oxford; brother, George McGrath of Winthrop; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Alice Peck,

DUDLEY — Alice T. (Biesiadecki) Peck, 80, of Indian Road, died Feb. 28, 2012, in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard after a period of declining health. Her husband of 42 years, Albert S. Peck, died in 1995.
She was born and raised in Webster, the daughter of Mary Biesiadecki and lived in Dudley since her marriage in 1953. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1949. Mrs. Peck was a bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business until he retired. She was a member of St. Andrew Bobola Church and the Dudley Polish National Alliance. She coached Lassie League many years ago.
She leaves three sons, Albert J. Peck (Andrea) of N. Grosvenordale, Darryl J. Peck (Caroline) of Dudley  and Jeffrey J. Peck of Woodstock; a daughter, Carol A. Boye of Latham, N.Y.; a brother, Ferdinand E. Sugar of Dudley; four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William A. Peck in 1982, and by a brother, Richard W. Sugar in 1951.

Dr. Paul R. Goyette,

VERO BEACH, Fla. — Dr. Paul Remi Goyette, 74, of Vero Beach, died Feb. 22, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 1, 1937, in Putnam, and moved to Vero Beach seven years ago, coming from Canterbury.
Dr. Goyette was a dentist in Moosup for 30 years. A wine enthusiast, Mr. Goyette spent nearly 9 years after retirement working in a number of different facets in the wine industry working the last two years at Sharpe Hill Vineyards in Pomfret. He was involved in the Canterbury Republican Party. Dr. Goyette was a member of Snake Meadow Club, Danielson, St. John’s Catholic Church, Plainfield, and Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Patricia Goyette; three sons, Joseph Goyette of Putnam, Jean-Paul Goyette of Vero Beach and James Paul Goyette of Dayville; daughter, Francine Zampini of Westfield, Mass.; sister, Theresa Cwynar of Plainfield; brother, Roland Goyette of Danielson; three grandchildren.
Mr. Goyette was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Bergeron and brother, Phil Goyette.

Frank A. Hmay,

DUDLEY — Frank A. Hmay, 87, formerly of Joshua Place, died Feb. 16, 2012, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge.
He was born Southbridge, son of the late Stanley and Anna (Skowron) Hmay and lived many years in Southbridge before moving to Dudley, and then Webster for the past two years.
He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.  He worked in the maintenance department for the Massachusetts Turnpike and was a well known researcher.  He was a member of the DAV, VFW and the Webster-Dudley American Legion.
He leaves three brothers, V. Casamir Hmay of Southbridge, Edward Hmay of Florida, and Thomas Hmay of Michigan; a sister, Victoria Bradley of Dudley; nieces and nephews in the Putnam/Thompson area.

Barbara Poplawski,

WEBSTER — Barbara A. (Bartkiewicz) Poplawski, 76, died Feb. 20, 2012, in Lanessa Extended Care.
She was born in Webster, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Was) Bartkiewicz and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Bartlett High School. Mrs. Poplawski was a secretary at Anglo Fabrics Company for many years before she retired. She was a former member of the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club.
She leaves a son, Brian Poplawski (Meagan) of Raynham; daughter, Lynn A. Siekerski (James) of N. Grosvenordale; four grandchildren, Brooks, Bryce, Aaron and Bret; sister, Dolores Martin of N. Grosvenordale.

Kevin Reid,

DANIELSON — Kevin Reid, 73, of Danielson, died Feb. 24, 2012 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
He was born May 1, 1938, in Wellesley, Mass., son of the late Edward and Eleanor (Foster) Reid. Mr. Reid served in the U.S. Air force Reserves.
 He owned and operated the Battery Shop of New England in Wallingford from 1973-1992. After his retirement he became the tax collector for the Borough of Danielson, a position he held since 1992. He served as a constable for the Town of Killingly, was a longtime member of the Danielson Lodge of Elks and a member of the Republican Town Committee.
He leaves his longtime partner Elaine Lippke; son, Kevin P. Reid (Leah) of New Milford; daughter, Nancy Reid Carr (Michael) of W. Warwick, RI; brother Edward L. Reid (Dorothy) of Austin, Texas; sister, Joan Simpson of Kingston, N.H.; four grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be at noon March 10 in Tillinghast Funeral Home, Danielson. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Janet Dehner,

BROOKLYN --- Janet R. Dehner, 79, of Brooklyn, died  March 1, 2012, at Regency Health Care in Danielson. She was the wife of the late Sherrill C. Dehner Jr. He died in 2010. She was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Pottsville, Penn., daughter of the late Wilson and Rita (Bowen) Stump. She was a supervisor for Finast Food Stores in Brooklyn and Putnam for over 25 years, retiring in 1986.
She had made her home in Brooklyn since 1958. Janet was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. She was a passionate Red Sox Fan, an avid bowler and loved to travel.
She leaves a son: Dale E. Eiler (Kimberly) of Brooklyn; daughters: Joanne R. Eiler of Freehold, N.J.; Gale J. Williams of Danielson, Cynthia L. Dehner of Brooklyn; brothers: Glenn B. Bowen of Schuylkill Haven, Penn., Edward Stump of Schuylkill Haven, Robert Stump of Schuylkill Haven;  five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Sherrill C. Dehner III, and a daughter Linda Kuchy.
