The Woodstock Academy gymnastics team, fresh off its Class M championship last week, turned in a stunning performance in capturing its first ever State Open title.  The Centaurs of coach Robin Deary-Fillmore bested defending champion Glastonbury 145.075 to 143.625.
Woodstock was led by terrific individual performances turned in by junior Shaila Segal and Jackie Deary.  Segal took first place honors on the Uneven Bars (9.675) and the Floor Exercise (9.6).  She was also fifth in the Beam and the All-Around.
Deary, the freshman, finished third in the Vault, fourth in the Beam and fourth in the All-Round, a performance that was lauded by her coach.  Courtney Osborn with a fourth-place finish in the Floor Exercise also scored for Woodstock.  Other performers for Woodstock included, junior Bree Hussong (Vault, Bar and Beam) and Emily Lipka on the Floor Exercise.
The Killingly Redgals, reigning Class S champion, also coached by Deary-Fillmore, finished fifth in the competition with a score of 135.225.  The Mazzarella twins, Lexi and Taylor, were the leading performers for Killingly.  Other members who competed were Hailey Cummings, Julia Connolly and Alexis Gevry.
