PUTNAM --- The Board of Education last week authorized its superintendent, William Hull and board Chairman Michael Morrill to contact local town about the potential long-range collaborative agreement to accept students from towns outside the Putnam school district.
The board feels that Putnam High School has a lot to offer neighboring districts, including, but not limited to:  A  vast variety of AP class offerings, including many that are unique to PHS; internal Test Score data showing major gains in all subject areas; the school’s “no cut" policy  in sports that allows playing time for all   students; a stable, well educated and devoted staff; the award-winning leadership of principal Paul Brenton; the possibility of a “renovated as new building” offering the latest   technology and state-of-the-art learning environment; the potential capacity to accept an entire town’s high school student  population; and a  per student cost that could be substantially lower than many towns are currently spending.
The square footage/reimbursement/state rules are complex, but it may allow from 100 to as many as 300 plus new students at the "renovated as new" school.
The highest projected enrollment  of Putnam students is 358 students.
