PUTNAM --- It is gloriously fitting: A memorial garden is underway for a departed community leader who reveled in planting, growing.
The Putnam Recreation Commission is working on the installation of a flower bed in Simonzi Park to honor the memory of former Recreation Commission member Steve Bousquet, "who was an avid master gardener and loved our community," said Willie Bousquet, Putnam's Recreation director.
Bousquet said the Steve Bousquet Memorial Flower Bed in Simonzi Park will be a stonewall rectangle that is being donated by Ken Gould, local stone wall master. Plantings are being donated by private donors. A plaque commemorating Bousquet's memory will be dedicated at the garden in late May or early June, Bousquet said.
Close friend Gary Osbrey of Putnam said, "The garden is right on the mark for memorializing Steve. He was a true outdoorsman and he LOVED flowers and flower gardens and each year he planted hundreds of annuals at his house. He was also a master gardener."
A Putnam native, Bousquet was a long-time business and community leader.
