PUTNAM — Day Kimball Healthcare recently acknowledged a refurbished audiometric booth that was donated to the organization by International Paper of Putnam with a dedication plaque. The audiometric booth is a sound-proof room designed for safe and accurate hearing tests.
“We’re pleased that Day Kimball is able to make use of the audiometric booth,” said Casey Delleney, plant general manager at International Paper. International Paper requires all new hires to have pre-employment hearing tests and then annual tests to ensure proper equipment is in place for hearing conservation. They had been conducting these tests internally and decided it was more efficient to outsource this testing, as it requires medical oversight by a licensed professional. The equipment was sitting idle at International Paper. “Now that Day Kimball offers occupational health services at their Plainfield Healthcare Center, it made sense for us to donate the equipment so that we can send employees to their convenient location on Lathrop Road,” added Delleney.
The audiometric booth is more than 15 years old, and required refurbishing and calibration before being used on employees. The Day Kimball Healthcare facilities team was able to make all necessary upgrades to the equipment and now it is ready for use in Plainfield. A commemorative plaque was affixed to the machine acknowledging International Paper’s donation.
According to Christine Vallee, vice president of physician services, “We truly appreciate the donation by International Paper as this will be an important service to offer and provide to local businesses.” She continued, “With a small investment to refurbish the equipment as well as the hard work of our facilities team, we are now able to provide employee hearing test services in northeast Connecticut.”
