POMFRET — The Pomfret Senior “B” Lacrosse team (made up of local 7th and 8th graders) has had a very busy start to the season, compiling an overall record of 6-0-1.
Back on April 14, the team opened the season with a 9-8 overtime victory vs. Suffield “B.”  The two evenly matched teams traded goals throughout much of the game with Tucker Johns notching the winner two minutes into the overtime.  Johns had 4 goals on the day with Evan Cunningham contributing three and Chris Rovero two.  Goalie Jake Mueller got credit for the first win of the season.
The next weekend, the team traveled to Hartford to compete in the Bobcat Blast Tournament.  They played four games that day, coming away with a 3-0-1 record against the following teams: Pomfret 1, Somers 1; Pomfret 5, Avon 1; Pomfret 5, South Windsor 3; Pomfret 8, Burlington 0.
On April 25, Pomfret hosted Stafford “B” and dominated play with goalie Jonathan Hummer recording the 9-0 shutout.  Defensemen Josh Bernier, Mason Defocy, Conor Quinn, Sam Paul and Chris Rovero were at their best keeping Stafford on their heels all afternoon.
Although Pomfret was unable to score in the first quarter, they more than made up for it in the second when they poured in four consecutive goals.  The first two were on man-up opportunities when Chris Rovero would score an unassisted goal and then Evan Cunningham would make it 2-0 on a Max Paro assist.  Later in the period, Kyle Prouty would get a nice feed from Tucker Johns to make it 3-0, and then Ryan Black would finish off the period on as assist from Cahan Quinn.  Solid play was put in by Isaiah Price, Cal Wilcox and Jake Phaneuf as they defended and transitioned the ball well from their midfield positions.
In the third quarter, Pomfret would continue the scoring spree with four more goals: Evan Cunningham would tally two (with his second being assisted by Quinn), Paro would score one from Johns, and Johnny Currie would add an unassisted tally.  A single score in the fourth quarter on a Cunningham to Johns combination would finish off the 9-0 victory.
April 29, the team hosted Vernon “A,” and goalie Jonathan Hummer found perfection for a second straight time, shutting out the visitors by the score of 8-0.  The first quarter was all Pomfret, with Evan Cunningham and Tucker Johns leading the charge.  Cunningham would score four goals, with two of them coming on assists from Johns.  The middle two goals of this run were scored with Pomfret a man short in the penalty box.  Also controlling the ball for valuable minutes in the attacking zone were Zach Gagnon, Lex Bosio, Bruce Dexter and Chapin Cheney.
The second quarter saw Will Liscomb find the back of the net off an assist from Johnny Currie, and Johns would get another, assisted by Cahan Quinn, to make the score 6-0 at half.  There was no scoring in the third, but Liscomb would make it 7-0 in the fourth on a Chris Rovero assist, and Jake Mueller would cap it all off with a tally from Currie with the clock winding down.
