PUTNAM --- The Putnam Juniors, a 15 and under team, started its 2012 season this week with three solid wins. The team is lead by freshman Jacob Guertin, Josh Allard and Steven Dakai who all played for the Clippers varsity team this year. The three boys are reunited with their teammates Nicholas Foucault, Kyle Loomis, Jon Luc Cournoyer, Brevon Harmon and Shawn Audet from the undefeated middle school team of last year.
Putnam started the season with a 15-0 trouncing of the Killingly Viper squad. Josh Allard and Jacob Guertin combined for the shutout. Kyle Loomis (3-3, 4 RBI) and Guertin (3-4, 3 runs) led the offense with three hits each including a triple by Guertin.
At mid week the boys traveled to Thompson to take on the much heralded Thompson squad. Putnam scored early and often and cruised to a 12-0 shutout win. Allard started and was unhittable as he extended his no hit streak to 7 innings. Nicholas Foucault came on as relief and held the shutout intact pitching two innings.  Allard led the offense going 2-3 with a double and three runs. Guertin (1-2), Foucault (1-2) and Dakai (1-2) all scored three runs in the win.
June 9 featured two of the top teams in the division as the Killingly Cobras came to Putnam. Allard staked the Killingly team a 1-0 lead breaking his scoreless streak in the first inning. Putnam came to the plate in the bottom of the first and quickly jumped on the Killingly pitching and scored 3 runs. Kyle Loomis took the ball deep for a double and 2 RBI. In the second, Putnam exploded for 6 more runs that started with a leadoff walk for Brevon Harmon. Steven Dakai’s base clearing double scored Guertin, Foucault and Allard.  Kristian Burke pinch ran, stole second and tacked on another Putnam run with two out. Dakai relieved Allard in the 3rd inning and found himself in a jam after two errors loaded the bases. On a heads up play, Shawn Audet threw out a runner at home to get the first out. Then Dakai helped himself by starting a 1-2-3 double play to catcher Kyle Loomis and onto 1st baseman Jon Luc Cournoyer. Nicholas Foucault’s double in the 6th inning forced the 12-0 mercy win for Putnam and a 3-0 record to start the season.
