PUTNAM — The Commercial Record has been named David Conrad a “Community Bank Hero,” an award recognizing local bankers who go above and beyond to better their bank and community.
The Community Bank Heroes award celebrates bankers who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and the community, giving freely of their time, energy and resources for volunteerism, community service and charity.
“In these challenging and difficult financial times, it’s admirable to see how community bankers have managed to persevere in their professional and philanthropic lives,” said Timothy M. Warren Jr., CEO of The Warren Group, publisher of The Commercial Record. “All of these ‘heroes’ demonstrate remarkable compassion and dedication to the communities in which they serve.”
Conrad is president and CEO of The Citizens National Bank, Putnam. A graduate of Alfred University and the University of Wisconsin, he has been the president and CEO of The Citizens National Bank and Citizens National Bancorp, Inc. since June of 2000.  A native of the western New York Finger Lakes Region, he now lives in Pomfret Center with his wife and two dogs.  Conrad is the father of three daughters.
“It certainly was a surprise in being named a hero of community banking.  I have worked in community banks for the bulk of my career.  Community banks are the backbone, and heart and soul of the communities they serve.  I don’t think I would ever be happy in working for one of the large mega-banks and would miss the attachment that community banking has with its customers and associates.”
Conrad will be honored at the 2012 Community Bank Heroes Awards dinner July 18
Other key players in the Connecticut banking sector will be honored, including:
