POMFRET — A reception and dedication ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 7, at the 4-H horse camp barns on 326 Taft Pond Road to celebrate a year-long renovation project funded jointly by donations from over 110 people to the Gary Gates Fund and the Windham/Tolland  4-H  Foundation.
Many professional and volunteer hours have gone into finishing this complete barn renovation which is now a showcase facility for the 4-H riding program at camp.
The Gates Fund was established by the Gates family after Gary’s death to benefit Windham County 4-Hers and the Windham Tolland 4-H camp program.  In addition to supporting the barn renovation, the fund has sponsored awards at the Windham County 4-H Fair horse show, and helped to send 4-Hers to the Washington conference.
The enclosed tack room/classroom of the completely renovated barn #1, originally built in 1970, will be renamed in honor of Gary Gates. This area provides additional program space in wet weather, and a dry storage place for hay and equipment storage throughout the year.
Invited guests will park at the main camp and take a hay wagon ride up the hill to the horse camp facility.   After the rededication ceremony, guest will be able to check out the new barn, have refreshments and observe a beginners riding class taking place.
