Bell-ringers start Nov. 23
PUTNAM --- The teens of Putnam Regional Interact Club will again be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Last year, thanks to the generosity of shoppers in the Putnam area, the club raised a record amount, $18,000. Since 1996 teens of the Interact Club and their classmates from surrounding schools have raised more than $125,000 for the Salvation Army.
Once again the club will be ringing the bell at Putnam SuperMarket, Price Chopper, Walmart, Super Stop & Shop and K Mart from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23 and 24, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22 and possibly Christmas Eve at some locations.
All money raised through this campaign stays in the Putnam area to help neighbors. The group is the only all teen group ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Interact members attend Putnam High School, Putnam Middle School, Tourtellottee Memorial High School, Marianapolis, Woodstock Academy, Putnam Science Academy, Killingly High, Killingly VoAg, St. Joseph’s School, Pomfret School, QVCC high school program and several home school members.
Putnam Regional Interact Club is part of an International organization for teens sponsored by local Rotary Clubs. There are more than 10,000 clubs worldwide with in excess of 250,000 members.
The group is sponsored by Putnam Rotary Club and Rotary members assist each bell ringing day by setting up the kettles in the morning.
