Bungay gets
forestry grant
WOODSTOCK — Bungay Fire Brigade in Woodstock received a grant of no more than $2,500 from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Division of Forestry, according to the office of state Senator Tony Guglielmo.
The funds can be used for training, water handling equipment, communications, prevention projects, safety supplies, suppression gear and other related items.
“Our volunteer fire departments are to be commended for their hard work and sacrifice,” said Guglielmo. “These grants will allow them to buy much needed equipment, conduct training for firefighters and upgrade communications.”
The Hampton Fire Co., Union Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. also received a grant.
The DEEP Division of Forestry offers these competitive grants every year to fire departments that are in towns with a population of less than 10,000.
“These fire departments have the vision to recognize the needs of the communities they protect and I am proud to say they are in my district,” said Guglielmo.
The Division of Forestry has been distributing Federal Volunteer Fire Assistance funds for over 25 years, during the past 10 years alone has been able to distribute nearly $800,000 to requesting fire departments.
