Holly Beth Hamer,

DANIELSON — Holly Beth Hamer, 48, of Danielson, died unexpectedly at home Dec. 1, 2012.
She was born Jan. 27, 1964, in Elmira, N.Y., daughter of the late Edward Hamer and Jean and Norval Smith of Coventry.
Holly graduated from E.O. Smith High School in 1982 and most recently, in May 2012, from Quinebaug Valley Community College, with highest honors and Phi Theta Kappa.
Holly leaves behind her daughter, Camryn Sheehan of Harvest, Ala.; her fiancé, Douglas Renaud; sister Laurie Hamer, both of Danielson, Tracy Hamer Will (Blake) of Ashford; nephews, Dylan LaKotta of Manchester, Ryan Will and Cody Will of Ashford; three stepbrothers: Daryl Smith (Cindy) of Coventry, Gary Smith of Brooklyn, and Wesley Smith of Coventry.
She was predeceased by her brother, Edward “Ted” Hamer, and stepsister, Lesley Ann Smith.
The Memorial Service was Dec. 8 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.

Lilia Vera de Bernier
PUTNAM — Lilia Vera de Bernier, 89, of David Circle, died Dec. 4, 2012, in the Matulaitis Nursing Home.  She was the wife of Archille Bernier for 22 years.  They were married in Tampa, Fla.  She was predeceased by her first husband Lisimaco Parra in Colombia. 
Born in 1923 in Mariquita, Tolima, Colombia, she was the daughter of the late Deogracias Vera and Delfinia (Murillo) de Vera.
Mrs. Bernier worked as an executive secretary for a moving company in Caracas, Venezuela.  She married in 1990 and lived in Pompano Beach, Fla., before moving to Putnam four years ago.  She enjoyed traveling.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her stepchildren; nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by five brothers, and two sisters.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 7 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.

Edwin Hryzan Sr.,
Korean war vet
WOODSTOCK — Edwin Hryzan Sr. 78, of Route 197, died Dec. 8, 2012, in Day Kimball Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Audrey (Forrest) Hryzan.  Born in 1934 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Michalene (Kachnowicz) Hryzan.
Mr. Hryzan worked as an upholsterer for Risom Manufacturing.  He also worked as a construction worker and for the Woodstock transfer station.  He was a Korean war veteran serving in the Marine Corps and was a member of the Quinebaug VFW.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, canoeing, kayaking and playing horseshoes.  He had a unique and amazing sense of humor and took great pleasure in making others laugh.
Edwin leaves three sons, Edwin Hryzan Jr. of Woodstock, John “J.D.” Hryzan (Doreen) of Pomfret Center, and Brian K. Hryzan (Cheryl) of Thompson; three brothers, Sylvester Hryzan of Dudley, Frederick Hryzan of Thompson, and Walter Hryzan of Littleton, N.H.; his sister, Theresa Zelazo of Dover, N.H.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Donations: American Cancer Society for bone cancer research.  Gilman and Valade Funeral Homes.

Jean E. Bousquet,

PUTNAM — Jean E. Bousquet, 80, of Memorial Terrace died Dec. 7, 2012, in Day Kimball Hospital.  Born in 1932 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Kenyon) Bousquet.
Ms. Bousquet worked as an administrative assistant for CL&P for 42 years. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and helping others.
She leaves her brother, Ernest “Sonny” Bousquet (Judy) of Putnam; nieces, nephews and a good friend, Priscilla Dyson.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Alice Savary, Bernice Frechette, Marjorie Gaumond, and Dorothy Bousquet.

Maurice Jean Fortin
BROOKLYN — Maurice J. Fortin died Dec. 2, 2012.
He was born Aug. 29, 1933, at home on the family dairy farm in Brooklyn, son of Anne and Edmond Fortin. He was the youngest of 4 children and lived his entire life on property that was once part of the family farm.
“Moe,” as he was known, was a gifted and accomplished carpenter and wood worker. He apprenticed in his youth building staircases. Moe enjoyed a challenging project, was well known in the area for being a hard worker and a perfectionist. He worked for Keenan and Navarro Builders for approximately 40 years. Up until his retirement he hardly ever missed a day of work and never forgot the lessons and values taught to him by his parents on the family farm. He spent his time in retirement maintaining his property, enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could also be found with a few buddies solving the world’s problems over coffee at George’s Galley or even over a couple beers while sitting around the woodstove in Lem’s garage. He leaves his spouse of 33 years Rachel (Gaumond) Fortin; sister Jacqueline Fagnant of Brooklyn; two daughters, Susan Davieu, and Linda Claflin (Terry) of Topsham, Vt.; son David Fortin (Joan) of Woodstock; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Michael Lamontagne,

DUDLEY —  Michael F. Lamontagne, 61, of Hayden Pond Road, died Dec. 2, 2012, in UMass Hospital in Worcester.
Born in 1951 in Southbridge, he was the son of the late Armand T. Lamontagne Sr. and Rita (Denno) Lamontagne.
Mr. Lamontagne worked as a maintenance man for Webster Spring and also for McDonald’s in Sturbridge.  He enjoyed all that nature had to offer such as fishing and sitting on the porch watching the birds, walking in the woods, and “mystery drives” to Vermont.  He especially loved his dog Max.
He leaves his daughter, Jennifer Franks of Sterling; his brothers, Armand Lamontagne of Woodstock, Robert Lamontagne of Woodstock, and Jean Lamontagne of N. Grosvenordale; his sisters, Jeanne Williamson of Woodstock, and Irene Cote of Danielson; grandchildren James A. Gatzke, Jessica Gatzke, and Patrick Franks.  He is predeceased by his brothers Ernest Lamontagne, Norman Lamontagne, and David Lamontagne; and his sister, Aline Cyriac.

Joshua M.
Shaw Sr.
ROGERS — Joshua M. Shaw Sr., 29, of State Avenue, died Dec. 1, 2012, at home. He was the husband of Angela (Rioux-Missino) Shaw.  Born in 1983 in Norwich, he was the son of Jan Papski of New London, and the late Donald Shaw.
Mr. Shaw was a 2003 graduate of Killingly High School.  He worked as a picker for Staples.  He loved going hunting, fishing, camping and spending time in the outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his son, Joshua M. Shaw Jr.; his sister Ashley Papski of Norwich.

Raymond Petrunia,
Korean war vet
THOMPSON — Raymond Petrunia, 82, of N. Grosvenordale died Dec. 8, 2012, in Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam.
He was born in W. Hartford.  He was a certified welder with Cottons Steel in Worcester.
Mr. Petrunia was a Navy veteran of the Korean war. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
He leaves a daughter, Karen M. Dennis (Girard) of Thompson; a grandson Timothy M. Petrunia of Webster; a great-grandson, Bryce Petrunia of Charlton. He was preceded in death by his two sons Raymond J. Petrunia and Steven P. Petrunia and by his grandson Christopher P. Petrunia.
