Coderre honored
DUDLEY — Nichols College senior Scott Coderre of Thompson collected his second National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division III All-New England Region nod as he was placed on the South Second Team following the 2012 campaign.
Coderre helped lead the fourth-seeded Bison to their third consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men’s Soccer Championship match courtesy of a goal in two of three playoff contests this fall. In the quarterfinals against fifth-seeded Western New England, the senior notched an early tally to give the Bison a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Coderre then had a foot in both goals – including an assist on the game-winning marker in overtime - to knock off top-seeded Roger Williams and help send the Bison to the finals. Overall, Coderre led the team with nine assists and 29 points and finished second among all CCC student-athletes in both categories. His 10 goals and four game-winning tallies ranked second on the team. For his career, the Thompson, Conn. native leaves the program second all-time with 37 goals and third with 93 points. In 79 matches, Coderre also doled out 19 helpers and deposited 10 game-winners. As a sophomore, Coderre scored just 3:06 into the 2010 title match en route to the squad’s first conference championship and appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Head coach Chris Traina said, “Once again, the Nichols soccer program is honored to have Scott receive accolades from the NSCAA members. Since Scott’s feet hit the turf in 2009, he stood out as a dangerous player. This grew year after year and played a huge role in our record-setting success. Scott can never be replaced, but the search to find a player of his ability and character on and off the field, will be a challenge.”
The Bison completed the 2012 season with an overall record of 13-8-0 and a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) mark of 5-4-0 as the team advanced to its fourth appearance in the CCC Championship match in five years and third in as many seasons under eighth-year head coach Traina.
