move to
fix parking
dilemma
PUTNAM --- Putnam Police Chief Rick L. Hayes and Special Services District Chairman Gerry Cotnoir are inviting Putnam residents and any owners of Putnam businesses who are interested in serving on a Parking Advisory Committee to contact either one of them.
The growth of the Putnam downtown area, with the upswing in businesses such as restaurants, boutiques, arts and theater, has created a need to study the current parking situation. The Advisory Committee will be asked to work with Special Services District and Town officials in surveying the availability of lots and spaces and better methods to control parking. The aim will be to accommodate visitors, customers and citizens, while finding methods to handle service providers and business owners and their staffs.
“Parking has been a topic of discussion in Putnam for some time now. From time to time various strategies have been employed with only a modicum of success. It’s a dilemma that’s been discussed at Putnam Business Association meetings and that’s why it’s been brought to the Special Services District,” said Hayes.
The aim is to put together an ad hoc Advisory Committee of approximately seven to nine individuals. These people will meet with the Chief of Police, a member of the Special Services District Board and the Director of Putnam’s Public Works Department.
“The issue of parking was brought to our Board by Chief Hayes. The members thought that seeking input from citizens and businesses was the prudent way to approach the topic. We’re looking to arrive at an amicable solution that will meet the needs of everyone in the downtown area, residents, visitors and business owners alike,” commented Chairman Cotnoir.
Anyone interested in being considered to serve on this ad hoc study committee is urged to contact Chief Hayes at 860 928-6565 or by e-mail, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or the District authority at 860 928-5529.
