Avis Spalding,
community leader
WOODSTOCK — Avis Spalding, wife of the late Paul S. Spalding and lifelong resident of Woodstock died Jan. 6, 2013.
She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Frances (Gordon) Frink. She married Paul in 1950 and together they ran a family farm for 36 years. During that time, Avis served on the Woodstock Board of Education, acting as chair for 13 of the 17 years she served. She also served on the Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees for 25-plus years and was a member of the Woodstock Theft Detecting Society. Additionally, she served on many other boards and committees.
She leaves four children, Susan Harris, Sabin Spalding, Wayne Spalding (Eve), Seth Spalding (DeEtta), all of Woodstock; eight grandchildren, Jared, Benton, Jamison, Travis, Kyle, Scott, Carilee, and Alana; four great-grandchildren.

Ethel Pitkin Hayden
PUTNAM — Ethel P. Hayden, lifelong resident of Putnam, wife, mother, nurse and caregiver, died Jan. 12, 2013, at Westview Health Care Center after a long illness.
Born March 22, 1927, the daughter of Thaddeus Eugene and Florence Brown Pitkin, she grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Putnam High School in 1945.
In June 1946, she married Walter Burrill Hayden of Putnam.
Together they enjoyed music, gardening and family during 60 years of marriage, until his death in 2006.
Ethel was a dedicated wife and mother of five who worked on the family farm canning and freezing vegetables and serving as a 4-H leader in sewing and cooking.
Ethel sang in both the Putnam Methodist Church Choir and the Northeast Connecticut Concert Choir.
After becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1966, she worked at Day Kimball Hospital and later at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam for many years, as well as providing care for family and others.
She was the organist at St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church in Putnam for almost 20 years, retiring in 2005, and served her church and community, including the Salvation Army and Munyan Cemetery, in many volunteer roles.
She leaves five children: daughter Mary Hayden and partner Carla Tomaso of Pasadena, Calif., son John Hayden (Sheila) of Powhatan, Va., son Michael Hayden (Cathy) of Los Altos, Calif., daughter Laura Russo (Ron) of Plainfield, and daughter Elizabeth Hayden (Ken Heidel) of Sturbridge; two grandsons, Sean (Wendy) of Powhatan, and Joseph (Sara), of Amelia Courthouse, Va.; two granddaughters, Christine and Catherine of Los Altos, and a great-grandson Dylan Hayden of Saratoga Springs, Utah; sister, Mabel Wagner of Lincoln, R.I.,; a brother, Edward Pitkin of Mansfield. She was predeceased by granddaughter Jessica Elaine Duff in 2009.
A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at the Living Faith United Methodist Church, 53 Grove St., Putnam, followed by a reception. Burian in Munyan Cemetery will be private.

Irene Bergeron,

NORWICH — Irene (Hetu) Bergeron, 91, formerly of Putnam, died Jan. 9, 2013, in Regency Heights of Norwich. She was the wife of the late Frederick Bergeron who died in 1976 of MLS. Born in 1921 in Webster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Ross) Hetu.
She lived in Putnam for most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and attended every Saturday. She enjoyed reaching out and helping the people around her.
She leaves her daughter, Cecile Latham of Norwich; granddaughter Lisa Latham-Shepherd (Christopher) of Norwich; great-grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Allen Higginbotham of Virginia, Ashley-Ann Higginbotham of Jewett City, Kells Allen of Jewett City, Brianna Evelyn Higginbotham-Dickerson (Ellis) of Norwich, Shawnee Helen Marie Higginbotham of Norwich, Rebecca Lynn Shepherd of Norwich, Aaron Michael Shepherd of Norwich; and great-great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Ellis Dickerson, Ella Irene Rose Higginbotham, and Jayden lee Dickerson; friends that were like grandchildren to her: Lloyd H. Brown of Thompson, Brad Miracle of New Hampshire, Martin Higginbotham of Willimantic, Melzer Heath of Putnam; her dog, Low-Rider. She was predeceased by all 11 of her siblings, being the last of the Hetus and Bergerons.

Lorraine Greene
DANIELSON — Lorraine Greene, 78, of Hawkins Street, died Jan. 3, 2013, in Hartford Hospital. Born in 1934 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Bellora (Paquin) Greene.
Lorraine worked as an assembler for the State of Connecticut. She lived at the Morin Avenue Group Home for 25 years. She then moved to the Hawkins Street Group home and was part of the Sunrise Northeast Group for nine years. She loved collecting model cars and going to car shows. She enjoyed drawing, coloring, crafts, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed arranging flowers.
She leaves the special social workers and the caregivers who cared for her over the years. She was predeceased by her brother, Earl Green; sisters, Blanche Lester and Edna Lamiotte.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 11 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial in the spring in Munyan Cemetery. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.
Olga Charlotte Moll
WINDHAM — Olga Charlotte Moll, 88, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Douglas Manor in Windham, where she had lived for the last 10 months. She was the wife of John H (Jack) Moll. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage until Jack’s passing in 2001.
Olga was born on Jan. 13, 1924, in Alpha, N.J., the third of five daughters born to Joseph and Mary Bencsetz. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School. She met Jack, her handsome sailor when he returned from the Pacific in 1946. They were married in a double ceremony with her older sister Madeline and Elwood Fahringer. The two couples remained especially close not only in proximity as they raised their families in Alpha, Phillipsburg and Harmony, N.J., but as best friends, often vacationing together. In 1986 Olga and Jack moved to Florida. In 2006 Olga moved to Connecticut with her daughter and son-in-law.
Family was the absolute joy of her life. She welcomed any opportunity to be together and simply have fun. Her warm, easygoing, and pleasant demeanor remained with her even in the end stages of her Alzheimer’s disease. She always loved children and chose to care for others even when her own were grown. She was a consummate housekeeper, who still in her later years always wanted to tidy up and help in any way that she could. She adored music, sunshine, reading, corresponding, and especially dancing. She looked forward to gathering for worship services and praise music, most recently at the Congregational Church of Eastford. Olga was a member of the Alpha (NJ) Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and the Cocoa Beach (Fla.) Community Church.
She was predeceased by her three sisters Leona Bencsetz, Blanche (Lenke) Wilson and Madeline (Putyi) Fahringer. Olga leaves her sister Josephine (Honey) Hanlon of South Patrick, Fla.; sons John (Jack) Moll Jr. (Phyllis) of Southbury, and Gregory Moll of Dublin, Va.; daughter Melissa Vincent (Robert) of Eastford; four grandchildren, Nigel Vincent, Nathaniel Vincent, Tegan Ryan, and Tierney Moll; and four great-grandchildren, Seamus, Ella, Dexter and Angu.

Audrey Francis
Mayo Weatherholt
PARKERBURG, W.Va. --- Audrey Francis Mayo Weatherholt, 50, of Parkerburg died Dec. 28, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 13, 1962, in Putnam, the daughter of George and Alma Mayo Sr. of Putnam. She enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with her family.
She was known for her fun-loving attitude and free spirit.
In addition to her parents, she leaves her children: Amanda Wheeler, James Weatherholt Jr., Tasha Weatherholt Hewitt and William Weatherholt; siblings: George Mayo Jr., Leo Mayo, Bruce Mayo, Gordon Mayo, Darlene Murray and Todd Mayo. She was predeceased by her husband James Oliver Weatherholt Sr. and granddaughter Ashlyn Moore.
Services were held in Parkerburg.
Anna Vincent,

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Anna P. Vincent, 85, of North 118th Way died Jan. 5, 2013, at Friendship Village. She was the wife, for over 62 years, of the late Edward Vincent. Born in 1927 in Manhattan, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Lilly (Zimmerman) Picciarelli.
Mrs. Vincent worked as a bank manager for the Putnam Savings Bank retiring in 1990. She also worked for Cargill Trust and Hartford National.
She leaves a daughter Barbara Jandro (Larry) of Scottsdale; sister, Hilda Huth of Putnam; a grandson Benjamin Kirchner of Albany, Calif. She was predeceased by her brother, Alfred Picciarelli; two sisters, Helen Chrzan and Theresa Valade.

PUTNAM — Michael J. Mosley, 52, of Putnam, died Jan. 6, 2013, at UMass Memorial Health Care - University Campus, Worcester.
Michael was born in Putnam, son of the late Margaret Doolittle and lived there most of his life. He owned his own tree removal and landscaping service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and flea markets. He was a member of the Hope Community Church.
He leaves his wife, Sandra (Cayouette) Mosley of Putnam, whom he married on Aug. 14, 2011. He also leaves a son, Xavier Taylor of Derby; a daughter, Isabella Mosley of Phoenix; a brother, Bobby Doran of Mississippi; three sisters, Debbie, Marylou and Gail. Marjorie C. Poitras
ABINGTON — Marjorie C. Poitras, 90, of Abington died Jan. 7, 2013, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Putnam, daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel (Buttress) Grimes.
She was married to Leopold “Fife” J. Poitras on June 30, 1945. Mr. Poitras died on April 15, 2008. Mrs. Poitras worked as a dental assistant for many years.
She leaves her children, Kim D. Poitras (Jayne) of Webster, and Linda S. Rich (Chap) of Abington; four grandchildren, Zachary Poitras, Benjamin Poitras, Sam Rich and Becky Rich; one great-grandson Wyatt Rich; special friend Karen Mazzarella.
The Funeral was Jan. 11 with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Donations: Charity of the donor’s choice. Tillinghast Funeral Home, Danielson.
Elizabeth Quinn,

DUDLEY — Elizabeth A. Quinn died Jan. 10, 2013, at Kindred Care-Oakwood, Webster. She had battled cancer for over a year. Her husband of 29 years, Lawrence B. Quinn died in 1985.
She was born in Dudley, the daughter of the late Richard J. and Helen (Deary) Dwyer. She was raised and lived in Dudley most of her life. She attended and graduated from St. Louis School and Bartlett High School. She then went on to graduate from St. Vincent Hospital Nursing School in Worcester.
Elizabeth worked at St. Vincent Hospital, then worked as a private duty nurse after raising her children. Later, she worked for 19 years as the Health Coordinator at Webster Square Day Care Center in Worcester.
Elizabeth and her husband Larry were very active in the initiation of St. Anthony of Padua parish in Dudley. They volunteered in fund-raising and events.
She was proud of her Irish descent and made multiple trips to Ireland over the years.
She leaves a daughter Karen Lanzetta (Mark) of Ocala, Fla.; three sons: Steven Quinn (Paula) of Thompson, John Quinn of Texas, Thomas Quinn (Maureen) of Woodstock; two sisters: Helen Groblewski of Webster and Maureen Martin (Nelson) of Dudley; six grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers: Richard, Charles and William Dwyer; and a sister Dorothy Groblewski.
