Putnam Science Academy soccer teams collect tie, loss
SOUTH KENT — The Putnam Science Academy Varsity and Prep boys’ soccer teams hit the road Thursday afternoon for a pair of spring season matchups against powerhouse South Kent. Both squads showed heart and grit with the varsity team earned a tie, 3-3 and the Prep team lost 1-0.
In the varsity game, even though they were behind 2-0 early on, the varsity team rallied to secure a 3-3 tie. The pendulum swung back in PSA’s favor as Caio Mussel put the Mustangs ahead early in the second half. Davi Frota’s goal reduced the margin to one after South Kent’s response made it 3-1, and Mario Camacho’s equalizer completed the comeback.
The Mustangs had a difficult battle against an unbeaten South Kent team in the Prep game.
PSA pushed the pace and played strong defense, displaying composure and toughness throughout the 1-0 setback. Raphael Alves, the goalie, made six crucial saves and kept PSA within striking distance, making a significant impact in the net.
