PUTNAM --- The Mayor's office recently released information about the safe disposal of energy efficient light bulbs which contain mercury or motor oil.
The office suggests:  If you put the used oil back into the container that it came out of and return it to the store your purchased it from, they will take it back.
For the light bulbs, pictured above:  Remove the burned out mercury-containing bulb from the light fixture carefully. Wear gloves. 2.    Place the bulb in a trash or zipper seal bag and secure. 3.    Visit your local Home Depot store and give the burned out mercury-containing bulb to one of the store’s CFL bulb recycling representatives. (Ask at Customer Service desk.)
The Home Depot has a recycling program that accepts mercury-containing light bulbs. There is no charge for the service. They will have an appropriate bag for you to put your bagged light bulb in.
