Tough pg 9 4-8-10

Tough loss
for Griffs in
baseball
POMFRET --- The varsity baseball team took to Mallory Field for the first game of the season. Facing a perennial league leader, Salisbury, the Griffins were beaten 12-9.
The Griffins were determined to get off to a fast start. Kenri Ferré took the hill in the first inning and faced only the first three hitters recording two K’s. Pomfret picked up a run in the bottom of the first when Dave St. Lawrence scored on a bases-loaded walk. Misfortune would hit the Griffins as Ferré injured his ankle coming into third on the final out.
He would not be able to take the mound in the second and Pomfret went to Dan Gagnon as his replacement. Gagnon did well in the second, retiring three batters after giving up a double. Pomfret picked up four in the second, which included an opposite-field home run from Alec Harris.
Salisbury picked up nine runs in the third as miscues on defense and some timely hitting put Pomfret behind. Harris would score in the third on a hit by Tucker MacDonald. Salisbury followed this by picking up three runs in the fifth on a double, single and two passed balls. Mounting a comeback effort, Pomfret picked up thee runs in the bottom of the fifth on a couple of Salisbury errors and a single from Dan Gagnon.
