The boys’ soccer team took the field Oct. 4 pumped to play Hyde. The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime and held onto the lead for the entire second half. Senior midfielder Zack Morin opened the scoring with a lovely lofted ball over Hyde CT goalkeeper Brian Sanz. Senior striker Ben Gustavson scored twice soon after, the second goal coming on a penalty kick when senior midfielder Trevor Ouellet was pulled down in the 18-yard box. Ouellet scored with 10 minutes left on an unselfish cross from Gustavson. Once again, Peter Boguszewski and Nick Haddad combined for a shutout (4 in 6 games). Boguszewski made two very difficult saves and Haddad stopped the remaining shots and crosses in the second half. Colin Duethorn and Hayden Yaworski anchored the flanks of the defense while senior sweeper Greg Diaz and sophomore stopper Eric “Fefe” Bordua thwarted any attacks up the middle. Juniors Rafal Lachcik and Kyle Higginbottom filled in admirably at right midfield for Samuel Elizondo, who was at a wedding in Mexico. Junior substitutes Jon Williams (sweeper), Max Reisdorf (right back), Shawn McMaugh (left back) and Rafal Lachcik (stopper) played well in preserving the shutout in the second half. The Knights are now 3-0 (with 9 points in 3 games) in the SENE, 3 points behind league leading Wheeler (with 12 points in 4 games). The boys also improved their record to 4-0 in WNEPSSA and 6-0 overall.
