Cyrus Harvey Jr.,

WOODSTOCK — Cyrus I. Harvey Jr., 85, of Woodstock, died April 14, 2011. He was the husband of Rebecca (Miller) Harvey.
He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Cambridge, Mass., son of the late Cyrus and Mae (Spear) Harvey. Cyrus was a 1947 graduate of Harvard, served with the U.S. Air Force as a navigator in WWII. He was the founder of Janus Films in 1956 and part owner of the Brattle Theater in Cambridge.
In 1972 he founded Crabtree and Evelyn in Woodstock. Mr. Harvey was a man of great enthusiasm, Cyrus was an opera lover, a gardener and had a deep love for Welsh Corgis.
He leaves his wife, Rebecca; daughter, Natasha Swann (Christopher) and their children, Alexander, Andrew and William of Atlanta; daughter, Tanya Harvey and her husband James Babson of Lowell, Org.; daughter, Viviane Ockenga and her children Zoe and Nicholas of Ipswich, Mass.; sister, Marjorie Harvey of Brookline, Mass.
A Celebration of Cyrus’ life will be at 11 a.m. April 23 at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, 543 Rt. 169, Woodstock. Jeanne D’Arc Desautels,

GROSVENORDALE — Jeanne D’Arc Desautels, 98, previously of Riverside Drive, died April 12, 2011, in Westview Healthcare Center where she lived for six years.
Born in 1912 in Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Angeline (Lariviere) Desautels.
Miss Desautels worked as a housekeeper for Day Kimball Hospital for 11 years. She had also worked for Grosvenordale Textile Mill in the spinning department. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale, and was a volunteer at their thrift shop. She just loved going to casinos, especially Foxwoods. She was a member of the “Royal Travelers,” and traveled with her nephew, sister, and cousins to Atlantic City and New York.
She leaves her sister in-law Marie Claire Desautels; nephews; nieces; and cousins. She left many friends, especially two dear friends Charlotte Ravenelle, and Bernice Choquette. She was predeceased by her brothers, Alferi, John, and Gerard Desautels; her sisters, Orianna Ferland, Anita Desautels, and Florida Grenier; and her nephew Bernard Ferland.
The Mass of Christian Burial was April 15 n St. Joseph Church, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.
Eleanor B. Ross
PUTNAM — Eleanor B Ross, 92, of Putnam died Jan. 28, 2011, at Matulaitis Nursing Home. Eleanor was a dedicated sister and active member in her church choir for many years. She worked for the Belding Heminway Co. and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves her niece, Burnham Ross Boehling; nephew, Arthur William Ross Jr. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Edith, brothers Asa and Arthur and parents George and Bessie Ross. Theresa M. Gaudette,

PUTNAM — Theresa Marie Gaudette, 73, of Providence Street, died April 17, 2011, at Day Kimball Hospital. Born in 1937 in Caribou, Maine, she was the daughter of the late John and Eugenie (Boucher) Bouchard. Theresa was a CNA at the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Provincial House for 21 years retiring in 2010. She took great pride in caring for each of the sisters. She enjoyed flying whether it was in a jet, plane or hot air balloon. She also liked camping, fishing, cooking and baking.
She leaves her children; Debbie Hughes of Middletown, Ohio, Norman Gaudette Jr. (Denise) of Thompson, Richard Gaudette (Debra) of Plainfield, Laurie Cote (Dave) of E. Killingly, Cynthia Nowakowski (Ernie) of Eastford, Hollie LaPalme of New London, Melissa Russell of Childress, Texas, and Philip Gaudette (Rebecca) of Putnam; her sisters, Germaine Vallee of Southbridge, and Nancy Gagne (Roger) of Dexter, Maine; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Lois J. Rice,

E. WOODSTOCK — Lois J. Rice, 77, County Road, died unexpectedly April 10, 2011. She was the wife of the late James Rice. He died Jan. 9, 1988.
She was born Aug. 6, 193,3 in Putnam, daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (Bazinet) Tracy. She made her home in Woodstock most of her life served as town treasurer for the Town of Woodstock.
She leaves a daughter: Patricia Rice of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son. Michael Rice of Danielson; two brothers: Arthur Tracy (Ruth) of Shelton, Wash.; Douglas Tracy (Peggy) of Dayville and Florida; a sister: Mary Kun (Laszlo) of Bradford, Mass.

Ernest N. Laurion,
Korean war vet
PUTNAM — Ernest “Ernie” Laurion, 81, of Chase Street, died April 15, 2011, in Matulaitis Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Cynthia (McNally) Laurion. Born in 1929 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Ernest and Florence (Chagnon) Laurion.
Mr. Laurion served in the Army during the Korean war. He was employed for A&P Tea Company for 49 years and owned Ernie’s Package Store. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Cargill Council #64, the VFW Albert J. Breault Post, and a life member of the Elks where he named “Elk of the Year.” He loved playing cards and golf.
He leaves daughters, Cheryl Aldrich (Arthur) of N. Dighton, Mass., and Sharon Briere (Michael) of Putnam; grandchildren, Joshua Aldrich, Ryan Aldrich (Meghan), Melissa Payne, Zachary Briere, and Cynthia Briere; great-granddaughter Natalie Payne.

Todd W. Morin,

POMFRET CENTER — Todd William Morin, 36, of Pomfret Center, died April 10, 2011. He was a family man, successful entrepreneur, and generous friend who faced adversity head-on, with a sense of humor, and with fortitude.
Todd’s battle with cancer began over six years ago, when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a terminal cancer of the blood. He was a man determined to live every moment to the fullest, and he did.
He was equally determined to share every moment with the love of his life, Holly (Backes) Morin, his wife and companion of 15 years. The center of his life was their son, Aidan Michael Morin, who inspired him to keep moving forward, despite the odds. Todd was committed to creating memories that would endure, be it summer trips to Martha’s Vineyard, amusement park rides in Florida, or simple nights in front of the TV with Holly and Aidan at his side.
As a successful entrepreneur, Todd’s innovation, business acumen, and willingness to roll up his sleeves, led to the creation of eEuroparts.com. his highly successful foreign car-parts business grew from a single-car garage to a bustling warehouse, nearly overnight. Prior to owning and operating eEuroparts.com, Todd served as a sales manager for Saab.
He graduated from Woodstock Academy in 1994.
Todd’s generosity with family and friends extended beyond, to philanthropic ventures including Dana Farber Cancer Institute and other New England charities. Though he contributed anonymously, hundreds of families in Northeastern Connecticut enjoyed a Thanksgiving turkey courtesy of Todd.
In addition to his wife, Holly, and son, Aidan, he leaves his mother, Elizabeth Clark; brother, Timothy Morin; sister, Megan (Morin) Franzino and her husband, Kevin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Backes; three sisters-in-law; nephews, and a niece.

Howard E. Newth Sr.,
Vietnam vet
EASTFORD — Howard “Stubby” Newth, 72, of Eastford Road, died April 12, 2011, unexpectedly, of cancer. He was the husband of Gloria Newth. Born in 1938 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Earl Newth, Sr. and Sara (Thorton) Newth.
Mr. Newth was a veteran of the Army during the Vietnam conflict and worked as a heavy equipment operator at King Trucking for many years. He enjoyed following Nascar and loved working out in his yard. He especially loved his three dogs, Ricky, Rockie, and Dozer.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his son, Howard E. Newth Jr. (Gina) of Eastford; daughter, Barbara Cote (Joe) of Westford; brothers, Frank Newth of California and Earl Newth Jr. of Virginia; sisters Earline Williams of Australia, and Betty Kowalski of Eastford; and his granddaughter Jessica Badger. He was predeceased by his sisters, the late Peggy Spink and Bobbi Newth.

Richard R. Joly,

DANIELSON — Richard R. Joly, 63, of Upper Maple Street, died April 13, 2011, at home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Putnam, son of the late Lucien N. and Nellie (Hajdun) Joly. Mr. Joly attended St. James School, and was a 1965 graduate of Ellis Technical High School where he played on the baseball team.
He owned and operated R. Joly Construction and prior to starting his own construction business he worked for many years with Savin Brothers Construction. Richard was also an active member and supporter of Central Cycle Club.
He leaves his sons, Derek Joly of Mansfield and Ryan H. Joly of Danielson; brother Lucien Joly (Judith) of Bloomfield; sisters, Jeannie Bessenaire (Robert) of Killingly, Patty Reyes (Mike) of Hampton and Janice Joly of Danielson; his dog Sprocket. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Joly.

Cyrille Syriac,
WWII vet
WOODSTOCK --- Cyrille F. “CY” Syriac, 84, died April 4, 2011 at home. He was born July 12, 1926, in Southbridge, son of Nelson and Florina (Robidoux) Syriac. He was owner operator of Syriac Enterprises in Woodstock retiring in 1994. He previously worked as the general manager at Chaffee Fiberglass, taught at the Mansfield Training School, and was a chemist at the American Optical Co. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, was a member and past commander of the American Legion in Woodstock. He served as a selectman for the Town of Woodstock, and enjoyed farming, sailing, traveling all over the country, and spending time up North.
He leaves four sons Victor of Lancaster, Mass., Eric of Boise, Idaho, Neil of Woodstock, Brian of Cheyenne, Wy.; daughter, Charlene Lestage of Danielson; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; a brother A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. April 25 at St. George Cemetery, Paige Hill Rd. Southbridge, Sansoucy Funeral Home, Southbridge.
