PUTNAM — April 18, down in Manchester, the Lady Clippers played Cheney Tech and lost 15-3.
Putnam started out scoring right off the bat in the first inning when Holly Desrosiers hit a run-scoring triple. Then later in the fourth, losing pitcher Taylor Trudeau and Megan Heaney both hit singles and scored on wild pitches.
“Cheney Tech really hit the ball well today,” said Putnam coach Steve Smith. Cheney had a home run, two triples and a double. Putnam’s Stephanie Baumuller went 2 for 3 with two stolen bases.  Putnam is 1-3 on the season.
April 20 the girls then traveled to Groton to play Grasso Tech, working to improve their 1-3 record, but Grasso had other plans, winning the game 15-4.
Grasso Tech came out on fire, scoring eight runs in the first two innings. The Lady Clippers didn’t give up and fought back by scoring four runs in the third and fourth innings. Losing pitcher Taylor Trudeau, Stephanie Baumuller and Kaylee Shippee each went 1-3 at the plate.
April 21, in Hartford, the Lady Clippers beat University 29-9.
The Clippers were led by Kaylee Shippee 2-4 with two doubles. Erica Anderson, in her first start of the year, was the winning pitcher.
“It wasn’t the prettiest game we played this year but we will take any win we can get,” said coach Steve Smith” Smith said Anderson pitched pretty well until the fifth inning when Stephanie Baumuller came in to finished things up. Megan Heaney, who walked seven times, scored six of those times and Brandie Masztal got her first hit of the year.
The Lady Clippers record is 2-4 on the season.
