Pomfret 8 Marianapolis 0
Nov. 2: The girls’ varsity soccer team upended neighbor Marianapolis Prep by the score of 8-0. The Griffins saw a lot of different names in the scoring column as they upped their record to 8-2-3.
The defensive unit of Alida Bernhart, Dylan O’Hara, Dejda Collins, Alyson Chase and Val Di Lella allowed Marianapolis only four shots on net, and all of those came in the second half. Those four shots were handled easily by keeper Mackenzie Dunphy who recorded her fifth shutout of the season.
In the scoring column, Alison Horst notched the first goal of the game to set the tempo for the team (on a nice assist from Dylan O’Hara), and Caroline Kozlowski soon followed with a goal of her own to put the team up 2-0 with just seven minutes gone in the game (Horst would earn the assist). After that, center midfielder Amanda Proulx caught fire and scored four of the team’s next five goals. Amanda was finding open looks due to some great team passing and strong corner kicks which she skillfully volleyed, headed and redirected into the back of the Marianapolis net. Assisting on two of those goals were O’Hara, her second of the day, and Jane Linhares. Right before the half and sandwiched between Proulx’s goals, Kirsten Richards recorded her first goal of the season off of Horst’s second assist of the afternoon. The final goal of the day was scored by L’or Iman Puymartin who benefited from the hard work of Andi Nicholson who had beaten a number of Marianapolis defenders to get her the ball.
Special mention goes to Lindsay Koss, Sorrel Perka and Carly Scott for some very strong midfield play that Marianapolis did not have an answer for today, and to Izzy Regine, Cassie Hayward and Morgan Lasewicz for their offensive talents and unselfish play.
Volleyball
Pomfret 3 Wilbraham 0
Oct. 26: Pomfret hosted their rivals from Wilbraham & Monson for a Class B match. For the second match in a row, Captain Cayman Macdonald did not play so she can heal completely and be ready for the final stretch of the season. So the Griffins once again played with a different rotation and barely outdid a very tenacious Wilbraham team. From the beginning it was quite clear this was going to be a tough match. Wilbraham played very good defense and was keeping our hits from hitting the floor. But Pomfret was a little more consistent than them at the service line. Neither team shined in offense as both teams found it hard to find a good rhythm. The match itself was very choppy with points earned on bad plays and not on the merits of a solidly played volleyball game. If there was a bright moment in the match, it was the debut of freshman Juliette Lawless’ jump serve. She had four attempts and missed only once while getting one ace. This is another step on her way of becoming a very successful and more complete volleyball player.
Kari Kolderup: 20 assists, 1 ace

Gabby Criscuolo: 4 kills, 1 ace
Blaise Desnoes: 8 kills, 1 ace
