Putnam Science Academy’s Jemal Mosley has become the third Mustang from this season’s 22-8 team to move on to the college basketball ranks. He joins his teammates Dayshon Smith who committed to the University of Dayton, and Jonte Rutty, who is headed to Georgian Court University in New Jersey.
Mosley, a 6-foot, 1-inch guard who scales in at 180 pounds, verbally committed to NCAA Division II University of New Haven. The news was broken on PSA’s twitter account Jemal Mosley @ Jemal Mosley5. Mosley came to Putnam as a post graduate student following a solid four-year career at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey.
This season Mosley was an integral part of coach Tom Espinosa’s team, where he provided versatility on offense and defense. He average 14.8 points per game as well as providing rebounding strength on both ends of the court. He was also able to step in and handle the point position when needed. As the season progressed his shooting beyond the arc was a factor in late season wins.
“Jemal is a player who brings a variety of plusses to any program. I believe he’ll be an asset to the New Haven program. He was a pleasure to coach because he’s a kid who’ll do whatever it takes for the team,” said Espinosa.
In moving on to play for the Chargers of Coach Ted Hotaling, he joins a program that made it to the NCAA Division II Regional competition that was held at Southern New Hampshire University, where they lost in the opening round to Dominican University out of Orangeburg, New York. The Chargers are losing two seniors from their 19-9 team, both guards, which will allow Mosley to compete for playing time. The University of New Haven plays in the highly respected Northeast-10 Conference.
According to Espinosa, his remaining post grad players Ugur Hortum from Istanbul, Mairega Clarke, Paul Brooks and Joel Angus continue to hear from interested colleges but have not yet been made solid offers.
