Paul G. Arvidson
WOODSTOCK — Paul Gordon Arvidson, 87 of Woodstock, went home to be with the Lord July 25, 2013, at Westview Health Care Center.
Paul was born on Aug. 9, 1925, in Putnam, to Axel and Agnes (Swanson) Arvidson. Paul grew up on the family farm with his brother Sven and sister Beatrice.
Paul attended Woodstock Academy and later graduated from Ellis Technical School. In addition to running the family farm, Paul spent many years on the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department and 40 years as town constable. He was also an active member of the Woodstock Evangelical Covenant Church.
He leaves his wife of 55 years Joan (Swenson) Arvidson; daughter Carol Arvidson of Putnam, daughter and son-in-law Martha and Robert Beckwith of Woodstock, daughter and son-in-law Beth and Frank Thayer of Woodstock, and daughter and son-in-law Linda and Gregory Scarpa of Preston; eight grandchildren, William and wife Monica Beckwith, Erika and husband Steven Bourque, Cynthia Beckwith, Julia Thayer, Ashley Merlo, Katie Thayer, Samuel Beckwith, and Nicolette Scarpa; one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Bourque. Paul is predeceased by his brother Sven and sister Beatrice.
The Funeral Service was July 30 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, with burial in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock. Sandra L. Cassell
N. GROSVENORDALE — Sandra L. Cassell, 50, died July 22, 2013, in Matulaitis Nursing Home. Born in 1963 in Kissimmee, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Cordelia (Gibeau) Cassell.
Mrs. Cassell worked for United Natural Food in the warehouse for eight years.
She enjoyed socializing at the American Legion Post 200 in N. Grosvenordale, crocheting, knitting, doing crafts, and her cat Peanut.
She leaves her brothers, Bruce Cassell of Southbridge, Steven Cassell of Oxford, Mass., and Herbert Cassell of Southbridge; sisters Deborah Berry and Sharon Cassell, both of Sturbridge; nieces and nephews; and her good friends Brinda Cartier of Thompson, Greg Roy of UNFI, and Diane Courtmanche of Thompson.

Ashley Bates
PUTNAM — Ashley Bridget Bates, 27, of Putnam, died July 25, 2013. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Steven J. and Dawn B. (Beaudet) Bates of Putnam, formerly of Worcester.
Ashley graduated from Putnam High School. She was an avid reader who enjoyed caring for animals and following her favorite music groups. She was known for her kind smile and gentle, generous spirit.
In addition to her parents, she leaves her sister, Meaghan A. (Bates) Faucher, her brother-in-law and two nieces of Brooklyn, paternal grandmother Ethel Bates of Auburn, maternal grandparents Ronald and Anne “Nancy” Beaudet of South Dennis, Mass. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Harry W. Bates, of Worcester.

Dorothy Mae Benoit
DAYVILLE — Dorothy Mae (Long) Benoit, 78, of North Road, died July 24, 2013, in the Villa Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation Community. She was the wife of the late Henry Benoit. Born in 1935 in Hebron, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Alice (Strickland) Long.
She enjoyed gardening and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the former Irish Club of Putnam, and the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary. Whether it was family, friends, or neighbors, Dorothy always left the door open for all to visit. The family requests that anyone who spent time with Dorothy and experienced her kindness, to take a moment and remember her with a smile and pay forward random acts of kindness.
She leaves her daughters, Darlene Barber (Sonny) of Dayville, and Danielle Ennis (Church) of Dayville; brothers, Clayton Long of Plainfield, and Herbert Long of Putnam; sisters, Alice Mailloux of Plainfield, Martha Kemp of Woodstock, and Clara Sylvia of Dayville; her grandchildren, Chad, Susan, Trevis, Stacey, Jason, Brandey, Courtney, and Brandon; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kali, Amber, Shealyn, Anthony, Stephen, Ricky, Logan, Cooper, and Sydney. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen Benoit in 1979 and two siblings.

Lillian Mae Hutengs
WOODSTOCK — Lillian Mae Hutengs 90, of Woodstock, died July 25, 2013, at home. Wife of Walter J. Hutengs for 41 years, they were married July 28, 1962. He died Oct. 19, 2003.
She was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Perham, Maine, daughter of the late George and Clare Jackson. She spent 25 years in Plainville, before moving to Woodstock where she made her home for over 40 years.
Lillian was a member Frederica Chapter, 110 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock.
She leaves her son, Don and his wife Mary of AR; three daughters, Wanda and her husband Bob of Oklahoma, Ann Marie of Connecticut and Loretta and her husband Jeff of Maryland; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; two sisters; a brother She was predeceased by her oldest daughters Elaine and Janice.

Woodrow J. Ogden,
Vietnam war vet
PUTNAM — Woodrow James Ogden “Woody”, 66, of Putnam, died June 24, 2013 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Husband of Rose (Rickey) Ogden they were married in 1969. He was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Lincoln, Maine,, son of Myron Ogden Sr., and Jeannette (Smith) Jimmo.
Woody was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a lover of animals. He was a construction worker with the Local Union 230. He was a veteran of Vietnam serving with the U.S. Army. Woody was very creative and witty, enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Woody leaves his father Myron of Greenbush, Maine; mother Jeannette of Quinebaug; wife Rose of Putnam; two daughters, Robin Diranian (Michael) of Lynnfield, Mass., Penny L. Ogden of Stoneham, Mass.; six grandchildren: Jacob (Booboo), Ethan (Rocky), Lauren (Peaches), Ava (Lulu), Evan (Duke), Anna (Baby Girl) Diranian; stepmother Faralyn Ogden; a sister Marlene Ogden of Woodstock; brother Myron Ogden Jr., of Ocala, Fla. He was predeceased by his stepfather Sidney Jimmo, brother Norman Ogden and mother-in-law Rita Rickey. The Funeral was June 28 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, with burial with military honors in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam; Donations: American Heart Association.
Emma Lou Smith
WOODSTOCK — Emma Lou Smith, 96, of Woodstock, went home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2013, after a very brief illness. She was the only child of Gertrude May and Doctor Lloyd Philip Griesemer. She was born Dec. 1, 1916, and grew up in the Pimlico area of Baltimore, Md., where her parents owned a neighborhood pharmacy. She retained close ties with her extensive family in Reading, Penn., where she spent many happy times.
After high school Emma attended The Philadelphia School of the Bible for two years, where she met and married Wilbur H. Smith who was employed there. They returned to Baltimore in 1940, living first in Pimlico, then Reisterstown, and finally Laurel, Md. In 1985 they moved to Woodstock, to be close to their daughter and her family. Wilbur died in 1985. She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Don Everburg of Woodstock; son and daughter-in-law Raymond and Karen Smith of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Robin Everburg, Sherry Everburg, Adam Smith, Adrienne Devlin, Martha Limberick, Joanna Cronkhite, Deborah Smith, and Holly Smith; eight great-grandchildren; Rory Smith, Margaret Devlin, Mark Devlin, Gage Simmons, Zachary Cronkhite, Calder Cronkhite, Audrey Helmetag, and Erika Helmetag. Services were July 25 at Elmvale Cemetery in Woodstock.
