Walley leaves
girl's basketball
post in Woodstock
Special to the Putnam Town Crier
The Woodstock Academy coaching carousel continues to turn as yet another member of the coaching staff has decided to resign.
Girls’ basketball coach Dave Walley, who has been at the helm of the program for six seasons, recently turned in his resignation to the school administration. Walley, who also serves as a guidance counselor at the Academy, cited the need to devote more time to his counseling obligations as the reason for his decision. Walley had previously also been the softball coach at Woodstock but vacated that post two years ago.
During Walley’s tenure the Centaur Ladies were competitive but were never quite able to put together a program capable of sustaining championship-caliber play.
Walley leaves his coaching position five weeks prior to the first call for players, which is scheduled for Nov. 25. The team is scheduled to open its season Dec. 11 at Windham.
The announcement to fill the vacancy was posted immediately and by law must remain open for 10 days before interviews can begin. It is anticipated that there will be a number of applicants in line for the job.
