Adamu: ‘I
really am so
grateful'
Muazibini Adamu’s numbers aren’t going to jump off the page and wow you. But, to be honest, he’s OK with that.
“I think I still can be better,” said the Putnam Science Academy big man, who averaged two points and four rebounds this year and announced last week that he will attend Harcum Community College in Pennsylvania. “I am really grateful for the chance to go there. Playing here at Putnam was an opportunity to grow up and learn, and to be able to continue doing that next year in college…I really am so grateful.
“Before I came to PSA, I was at First Christian Love, and I played a lot. And then I came here and did not play. I realized I had so much to learn. Being here taught me a lot. Now I am ready to go to Harcum and keep learning.”
Harcum, located just outside of Philadelphia, has sent more than players onto Division I, and PSA coach Tom Espinosa firmly believes Adamu, who is from Ghana, can add to that number.
“I think this is going to be good for him. He’ll get a chance to play and be able to show some of the things he can do. He’s definitely a Division I player. He’s a big body and he can really protect the paint. He’s not a shot blocker, but he’ll wall up and make shots difficult.”
For Espinosa though, this will be much less about seeing another player at the Division I level.
“I think that’s the first thing with Adamu, he’s a great kid,” Espinosa said. “He really is. Nobody has a bad word to say about him, everyone loves him.”
The 6-foot, 10-inch Adamu didn’t play much in 2021-22 as he was adjusting to the speed and the level of play. He opened this past season as a starter, but saw his role diminish as Ben Ahmed’s grew, and when other bigs joined the team in the second semester, Adamu found himself at the end of the bench.
“But he never complained,” Espinosa said. “He just kept coming in and working hard. He’s a great teammate, great kid. He’s real easy to root for.”
Adamu, who had season highs of 10 rebounds (on two different occasions) and nine points, is looking forward to the chance to continue growing his game.
“I think Harcum is a very good school for me,” he said. “It’s a great environment. I spoke to the coaches and it just feels like a good place for me. I’m very grateful to have the chance to go.”
