'Falling' into a fun and delicious festival

POMFRET — These were not simply thrown-together-casually apple pies. Nope. Pomfret’s first annual Fall Festival, held Sept. 7, was pie heaven.
There might have been only four entries in the perfect apple pie baking contest, but each one looked like it should be in a commercial.
Olivia Riabtsev, 11, took first place. She said she’s been baking for four years. Asked why she thinks she won, she said her pies are made with love. She said she’s passionate about baking. And it showed — she took first.
The second-place winner was Ken Greene, who named his entry I (heart symbol) Pie, and third went to Ashley Silvia. The fourth apple pie was baked by Karen Tellier.

Table Talk Pies contributed the “tools” and the prizes for the pie-eating contest. Contestants, categorized by age, competed in the pie-eating contest. No hands allowed. And the winners received a box of Table Talk Pies.
Held at the Pomfret Recreation Park, the fun included corn hole, basketball, old-fashioned sack racing, many many more games, a food truck and a concessions stand.
The crowd enjoyed the music of the Great Garage Band Reunion.
Pomfret Recreation Department Director Carrie Wolfe said she was pleased with how well the event went. She had help from Jennie Mix and Katie Bloom. High school helpers included Blake Hudock from Woodstock Academy, and Deven Mix from Killingly High School.
