Rotary Fishing Derby
PUTNAM — The fish might not have been biting but nearly 150 youngsters had a wonderful time in Rotary Park the Putnam Rotary Club’s annual Noe Poulin Fishing Derby April 21.
Some fish were pulled in, though. Llizabeth Beauregard, 4, won largest fish caught in the under 5 years old catagory with a 4.9 oz brown trout; Charles Beauregard, 6, won for the most fish caught and the largest for 6-9 year olds with a 6.7 oz and an 8.4 oz brook trouts; Taylor Knupp, 12, won largest fish for 10-12 year olds with a 7 oz. brook trout; Andre Bessette, 10, won for most unique fish with a crayfish.
Some 144 kids took part. Last year’s rainy fishing derby had only 70 participants. This year’s breakdown of attendees: 5 and younger = 42 children; 6-9 year olds = 47; 10-12 year olds = 37; 13-15 year olds = 18.



Meeting set
WOODSTOCK — The Annual meeting of Woodstock Central Cemetery Assoc. will be held at 7 p.m. April 28 at the St. Jean residence, 601 Rt. 197, N. Woodstock. Election of officers and discussion of new and old business.  Open to all interested parties.



Woodstock Elementary/Middle
Monday: Lanky franks, fruit. Tuesday: Hot chicken sandwiches, butternut squash, fruit. Wednesday: Bosco Stix, marinara sauce, fruit. Thursday: Ziti, meatsauce, green beans, fruit.  Friday: Pizza, corn, fruit.
Pomfret Community
Monday: Meatball grinders, green beans, broccoli cups, apple slices. Tuesday: turkey sandwiches, carrot snax, kids snack mix, orange slices. Wednesday: Beef or bean tacos, corn, pineapple. Thursday: Mr. Fox's pizza, peaches. Friday: Hot dogs,  fruit tray.
Putnam Elementary/Middle
Monday: Beef burgers, sherbet. Tuesday: Baked chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, beets.  Wednesday: Grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, veggies with hummus, Goldfish crackers. Thursday: Asian chopped chicken salad. Friday: Putnam Special Pizza.
Putnam High
Monday: Black bean and rice veggie wrap. Tuesday: Penne primavera. Wednesday: Asian chopped chicken salad. Thursday: Ham, egg and cheese on whole grain English muffins. Friday: Pizza, greens salad w/ grape tomatoes.


Concert May 5
THOMPSON — The Thompson Congregational Church will present a benefit concert at 2 p.m. May 5 at the church.
John Curran will play on flute and Barbara Speer will play piano. The concert is free but a free will offering will be taken.
A former flutist with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Curran was also the Principle Flutist of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony in New London. Barbara Speer has been a longtime pianist and recitalist in the New York City area. Of her debut, New York Times music critic Donald Henahan praised her “technical finesse, excellent taste, genuine involvement, poetic understanding and strong structural sense.”
The program will include works by J. N. Hummel, Claude Debussy, John Rutter and Howard Hanson.
