Signs

PUTNAM — Putnam Science Academy post-graduate Alexis Yetna signed to South Florida last week. 

The 6-foot, 8-inch big man and native of France picked up his first high-major offers last spring when he led the Adidas Gauntlet circuit in rebounding while running with Team Belief.

His recruitment went to a brand new level this season though after arriving at Putnam Science Academy in October and again demonstrating his special ability to rebound the basketball.

He added offers from the likes of Iowa State, DePaul, St. John’s, Mississippi State, and N.C. State in recent months but new Bulls head coach Brian Gregory and his staff made him a priority from the moment they took the job at South Florida in March.

With an immediate opportunity to earn minutes in front of him, Yetna pulled the trigger from the American Athletic Conference school May 10. He is the seventh PSA product to earn a full athletic scholarship in the class of 2017.

Nekolas Michael

PUTNAM —  Nekolas Michael, 74, of Sabin St., died May 10, 2017, in Day Kimball Hospital after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was the husband of 38 years to Blanche T. (Baribeault) Michael.  Born in 1942 in Southbridge, he was the son of the late Nekolas and Stella (Emery) Michael.

Mr. Michael worked for many years at Anchor Glass and then went on to work as a custodian for Putnam Elementary School for many years before his retirement.  He enjoyed watching golf on TV and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed working outside around his home.

He leaves his wife; two sons Kevin Michael (Janet) of Dudley and Mark Blackmer of Maryland; three daughters Maryanne Regimbal and Donna Michael, both of Massachusetts, and, Denise Shippee (Thomas) of Putnam; a sister Mary Beaudion of Putnam; grandchildren including Tyler, Megan, Nichole, Kevin, Ricky, and Johnathan; a great-granddaughter Rosalie. He was predeceased by his daughter Tina Perrin; three brothers George, John, and Ernest Michael; and two sisters Helen Avery and Loretta Baillargeon.

Marilyn Argersinger

Marilyn (Lyn) B. Argersinger, 92, died at Westview Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center in Dayville, where she had been a resident for several years. 

Lyn was the daughter of John Russell Barlow and Florence (Marsh) Barlow. She lived in W. Hartford for most of her life. She was a member of First Church of West Hartford. 

As a young woman, Lyn studied languages at Wheaton and Middlebury Colleges and became fluent in French, German, Spanish and Russian She travelled extensively before returning to W. Hartford to raise her family. She worked for many years as an underwriter for the Connecticut General Insurance Company. She was frequently called upon by CG as a translator and host for visiting foreign dignitaries. She was a member of many local organizations. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, sharing her love of the out-of-doors with her Scouts.

By far Lyn’s most joyful time of life was her marriage to Jack. Together they split time between their West Hartford home and the Argersinger family camp in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Summers at the lake with family dropping by to visit were very special to Lyn and Jack as they enjoyed their later years together. 

She is predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Argersinger. She leaves her daughter Marsha Sokoloski (Steve) of Eastford; her son, the Rev. Kevin D. Bean (Megan) of Hyde Park, N.Y.; five grandchildren, their spouses, and four great- grandchildren, on the Bean/Sokoloski side of the family and survived by her four brothers Jack, Robert, Donald and Jamie Barlow. 

Her marriage to Jack gifted her with a large extended family of Argersingers, including Jack’s sons John and Frank, daughter Jean Bitely and a cadre of Argersinger step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ann M. Belling

WOODSTOCK —  Ann M. (Jedele) Belling, 93, of English Neighborhood Rd., died May 7, 2017, at home.  She was the wife of the late Paul R. Belling.  Born in 1923 in Tonawanda, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Inez (Bolier) Jedele.

Mrs. Belling worked for many years as a nurse at various nursing homes.

She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed remodeling homes and building stone walls with her husband, refurbishing homes, needlepoint, spending quality time with her family and special friend Eursula. In her later years, she enjoyed feeding stray cats from her deck.

She leaves three sons, Robert Belling (Mia) of Columbia, Daniel Belling (Karee) of Palm Bay, Fla., David Belling (Diane) of Coventry; a daughter Rebecca Belling of Coventry; seven grandchildren Dawn, Teresa, Sara, Eric, Logen, Daniel, and Lisa; eight great-grandchildren Nicolas, Ava, Jackson, Trevor, Emma, Jacob, Riley, and Grayson. She was predeceased by three siblings Robert, Mary, and Kenny Jedele and a great-grandson Peyton.

Sydney T. Harvey

PUTNAM — Sydney Tefft Harvey of Putnam died unexpectedly May 9, 2017, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. She was born Jan. 26, 1935, the daughter of the late Leslie Harvey Sr. and Edith Patterson. 

As a former military spouse, Sydney was blessed with living in many different places including: Germany, Massachusetts, New York, Nebraska and Connecticut, but spent most of her adult life in Hawaii on the islands of Oahu and Kauai.  

She earned a degree in nursing from the University of Hawaii and served others in need as a nurse in Honolulu.

Syd, as she was known, lived at Little River Acres in Putnam. She loved living there with her cats, a perfect view of the flowing river, and spending time with friends and family. Syd thoroughly enjoyed a colorful life, and could be found shopping, dining out, spontaneous excursions, and collecting exquisite jewelry and home décor; sometimes all in the same day.

She leaves her children: Michael Duffy, Mary Schlehofer (Glenn), Joseph Duffy, Timothy Duffy (Nonet). She was predeceased by her sons Thomas and John Duffy. She also leaves grandchildren: Jessica Duffy and her partner Chad Neal, James Bartolomei (Suzanne), Lesley Young (Douglas), Ashley, Samantha, Timothy Jr., Renie (Kepa), Patrick, Sandy, Kirstin, and Amanda; great-grandchildren: Olivia, Emma, Thomas, Alexa, Andrew, Lily Grace, Declan, Courtney, Kyah, Kawelo, and Kalea; siblings: Leslie Harvey Jr. (Mary), James Harvey (Joan), Alice Lincoln (Ron), Ruth Turski (Ray), and Mary Jane Gleason. She was predeceased by her brothers David, Earl, and William Harvey.

There will be a private graveside gathering at a future date at Munyan Cemetery in E. Putnam.

Elizabeth M. Uhles

ALASKA — Elizabeth (Mayo) Uhles, 81, of Alaska, died May 8, 2017, in Anchorage at the Providence Hospital.  

She was the wife of Bob Uhles.  Born in 1935 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late James and Alphonsine (Bellanceau) Mayo.

Elizabeth leaves a son Roger Nabozny of Anchorage; a daughter Bobbie Montgomery of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers Joseph James Mayo of Danielson and James Charles Mayo of Pomfret; and two sisters Rosemary Long of Putnam, and Alice Bury of Scotland.

Graveside Services are at 11 a.m. May 20 in St. Mary Cemetery on Providence Street, Putnam.

Carl J. Charbonneau,

Air Force vet

N. GROSVENORDALE — Carl John Charbonneau, 81, died May 9, 2017, at the Elderwood of Scallop Shell at Wakefield, Peace Dale, R.I.

He was born in Preston, son of the late Philip and Emma (Kristek) Charbonneau, and lived in the area most of his life.   He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Carl was a school custodian at Tourtellotte Memorial High School for many years. He was a past member of Thompson Lions, Valley Springs Sportsman Club, 4-H Leader and a Cub Scout leader.

He leaves his wife 57 years Carmen (Langelier) Charbonneau; two sons, David Charbonneau (Pam) of Thompson, Harold Charbonneau (Melissa) of Putnam;  two daughters Karen Cole (Blair) of Thompson, and Marie DeJesus of Thompson; seven grandchildren, Joseph and Joshua Charbonneau, Nicholas and Chelsea DeJesus, Mickayla Mack, Dominique and Robyn Charbonneau.  He was predeceased by a son, Carl Charbonneau Jr. and a brother, Philip Charbonneau.

PUTNAM — Deborah Seney, housekeeper for Day Kimball Healthcare, has been named Employee of the Month for March by Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH).   

Seney, who has been working at DKH since 2003 in her role as a housekeeper, cleans and maintains sanitary, orderly and attractive conditions on the medical/surgical floor in spaces occupied by patients, staff, and visitors. Her primary responsibilities include total patient room cleaning, waste management and operating sanitation equipment.

Seney was born in Putnam and has lived in N. Grosvenordale with her husband for the past 45 years. She has two children and seven grandchildren.

When asked about what she likes most about her job she said, “There are many facets to my job that I enjoy thoroughly. But the most important ones include the people I work with on a daily basis. They are all great hardworking people. The other one is being able to put a smile on the patients’ faces, when they are having a bad day. I feel it’s important to maintain a positive attitude for the betterment of the patients and the hospital community.
