PUTNAM --- The Putnam Bank Foundation has donated $3,500 to Opera New England of Northeastern CT, Inc. d/b/a Performing Arts of Northeastern Connecticut, in support of two children’s performing arts educational programs.
“One of the objectives of the Putnam Bank Foundation is to support cultural and educational programs that help enhance the communities we serve,” explains Thomas A. Borner, Putnam Bank’s chairman and CEO. “We believe that supporting the Performing Arts of Northeastern Connecticut helps us with that objective.”
This season, the Performing Arts of Northeastern CT presents “Big Blue Marble” on Monday April 12 at the Hyde Cultural Center and The Barber of Seville at the Hyde Center on Thursday, April 29, and at Mansfield Middle School on Friday, April 30.   Big Blue Marble is a study of the sea, its inhabitants and related local traditions in musical voiced – featuring a 50-piece orchestra, songs from a family of humpback whales and a glass harmonica virtuoso.  In the Barber of Seville, the company combines the very best music, theatre, dance and visual artistry in one squirm-proof hour to bring Rossini’s classic work to life.
The mission of the Performing Arts of Northeastern CT is to present a variety of professional performing arts events at affordable prices that appeal to people of all ages in northeastern Connecticut and nearby areas.  One of the cornerstones of this mission is the Children’s Educational Opera Program, presented free to area towns, which introduces children to a professional opera performance and supplies supportive educational materials.
