Marianapolis
enjoys most
successful
tourney in
33-year history
By Ron P. Coderre
The 33rd Marianapolis Prep School Golf Tournament, played under ideal weather conditions at the Raceway Golf Club in Thompson, enjoyed its most financially successful event ever, according to Development Officer Susan Andersen.  The Sept. 12 tournament attracted a field of 34 foursomes, including alumni, parents, faculty, board members and friends, who helped raise more than $40,000.
“We could not be more pleased with this year’s tournament; its success was made possible by the generosity of our players and donors,” said Andersen.  “The proceeds from this event will continue to support outstanding local students in their pursuit of a Marianapolis education.”
On the golf course a trio of Marianapolis grads, Brendan ’96 and Jared ’99 Meehan, and Peter Rutcho ’96 teamed with Aaron Vargas to post a blistering score of 18 under par 54 on the par 72 layout.  The foursome was crowned the 2012 MPS Tournament Champions.
The female foursome of Lisa Bodreau, Dawn Poirier, Beth Aulenbeck and Terry Baron captured first place in the women’s competition.  They posted a score of three under par 69.  The winners in the co-ed competition were Charlie King ’79 and Rich Morrissey ’65 who teamed with Cathy Church and Tracey Kelly ‘81 to post a seven under par score of 65.
In special contests, Jon Androlewicz ’99 and Ann Marie Gustavson ’85 were crowned the 2012 ‘long drive’ champions.  The closest to the pin winner for the men was Jeff Child.  His shot on the par three, fourth hole landed 3 feet from the pin.  Kristine Fontaine captured the women’s closest to the pin competition.
The shot that created the most excitement of the day was registered by Sue Jodoin of Webster, when she recorded the first hole-in-one of her golfing career on the par three 17th hole.  Jodoin brought the 17th to its knees, when she hit her Marianapolis Titleist Pro V1, 160 yards using her trusty 7-wood.
“I struck the ball solidly and my group watched as it landed and kept rolling until it disappeared.  It was awesome.  My heart was pounding.  Never in a million years would I have expected it,” said the affable Jodoin.
The shot heard ‘round the Raceway’ earned Jodoin possession of a 2012 white Ford Focus donated by Place Motors of Webster.
The 2012 tournament sponsors were, The Mousseau Family, Rampco Construction Co. of Dudley, Thompson Electrical Contractors of Quinebaug and Michael “Dugan” Wolchesky ’75 of Pomfret.
