Mike Pizzetti, golf course manager at Quinnatisset Country Club, recently released the results of the annual Member/Guest Tournament, which was held over the weekend of Sept. 8 and 9.  Although many of the names are familiar to the local golfing community, it’s apparent that a changing of the guard is taking place on the golf scene as the younger players are beginning to emerge on the championship and upper flights of play.
In what was described as a very competitive Championship Flight, three twosomes battled down to the wire before the eventual champion was crowned.  Winning the 2012 title was Chris Markiewicz and his guest, former Quinnatisset Club Champion Brian Bardier.  They captured the winning trophy, edging current Club Champion Bill Poirier and his guest Pete Reynolds and third-place finishers 2012 Connecticut Amateur title holder Matt Smith and his guest Brendan Meagher.
Former Woodstock Academy standout Jeremy Hendrickson with Andre Lavoie won the 1st Flight besting Rocky and Matt Bedard and third-place finishers Neil Bernier and former Quinnatisset assistant pro Nate Blanchette.  Mitch Pizzetti and Andy Loconto won the 2nd Flight followed by Bob Cloutier and Mike Panteleakos and the show place twosome of Scott Cohen and Chris Cote.  The 3rd Flight went to Dan Navarro and Tim Gosselin with Kevin Mackie and Ed Grzembski following in second place and Ed Czernicki and Bob Eddy in third place.
The 4th Flight title went to Lefty Jim Kroll and his perennial partner Nick Mitsakos.  Second place in the flight went to the twosome of Tom Morway and “Big John” Lesniewski, while Pete Garosshen and Jim Logsdon were third.  Former University of Hartford baseball star Mike Scrapchansky and Joe Rutcho won the 5th Flight beating the father/son combo of Walt and Jim Crabtree and third-place finishers Gerry Kunkel and Don Deary.  Eric Whittenberg and his partner Mark Warren walked off with the win in the 6th Flight.  Paul Laskowski and Jeff Mayotte were second and Lee Kunkel and Eric Johnson third.
Corey Gaudette and Cargill Chevrolet’s Jerre Fillmore won the 7th Flight over Rick and Steve Dion and Dennis Kelly and Mike Walewski.  Mike Bernier and Jim Messier were the popular winners of the 8th Flight besting Dan Bouchy and Brad Goettel and Bob Tetreault and Fran Bernier.  A pair of former Putnam teammates Gary Alves and Rob Gosselin was crowned 9th Flight champs.  Second place went to “The Legend” John McCormac and Steve Peluso, with Mike Baker and Mike Boldevic in third.
Rick Treiber and Roger “King of the Road” Nelson won the 10th Flight over second-place finishers Cliff “Big Cat” Curtis and Steve Zablocki and Bill and Mike Mountford.  In the 11th Flight Ted Tsanjoures and Mike Christina took the title over Spike Scott and Dave Ricci and Jimmy and Paul Karapanos.  Finally in the 12th Flight, Doug Valentine and “The Other” Mike Bernier walked off with the crown.  Robert Viens and Fred Ricci were second and Tom Auclair and Lou Thomas came in third.
According to Mike Pizzetti this was the largest and most competitive field in many years.
