PUTNAM — Last week was tough for the Putnam High girls’ basketball team as they lost both contests.
Hale Ray squeaked by Putnam, 39-38.
Putnam lead 22-19 at halftime and the game was tied at 27 at the end of three quarters. Ashley Espinosa hit a free throw with 7 seconds left to put the Clippers up 38-37 and Faith Cooley hit a driving shot at the buzzer to win the game for Hale-Ray.
Espinosa lead the Clippers with 18 and Monica Phongsa had 10 points.
Three pointers for the Clippers came from Monica Phongsa. Other Clipper scorers included: Kim Dysinger 0-0-0; Ashley Espinosa 8-2-18; Monica Phongsa 3-2-10; Cynthia Briere 1-4-6; Makenzi Kaylor 1-0-2; Abby Allard 1-0-2.
Records Putnam: 3-2; Hale-Ray 2-3.
Earlier in the week the Clippers fell to Platt Tech of Milford 34-28. Putnam lead 15-12 at the half and 22-20 at the end of three quarters but struggled shooting the ball in the fourth quarter. The Clippers were lead by Ashley Espinosa with 11 and Monica Phongsa chipped in with eight.
