KILLINGLY — The RSVP Veterans Coffeehouse has designated Dec. 27 as “Meet a Vet Day” at the Veterans Coffeehouse, 185 Broad St. Local schoolchildren, fifthth grade and older and accompanied by a parent or guardian, are invited to visit the Coffeehouse and meet local veterans as part of a learning experience.
The Coffeehouse will be open from 9 -11 a.m.
The program will include brief introductions by veterans who served in different military branches during different eras, followed by the opportunity for students to ask questions of these local heroes. The students can meet veterans who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
“We hope this will be a valuable learning experience for young people, especially those who have had little exposure to veterans and the history of our armed forces,” said retired Navy Chief Jim Montgomery of Brooklyn. “Our children are this nation’s future and it is important that we do this for them and with them,” he added.
Parents/guardians are requested to contact Greg Kline at the Veterans Coffeehouse (860-774-9286 or via email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by Dec. 20 to reserve a spot at the “Meet a Vet Day” program.
